Ok, me and some friends of mine had been planning to go down to Ann Arbor and hit up some clubs for the past week or so. So, seeing as it's been about a week since I decided to implement PU into my life, I figured hell yeah...time to get some experience/practice under my belt. Well, you guys ever heard of Murphy's Law? Well, if you havent, it boils down to, and I quote, "What can go wrong...will go wrong." Tonight was a very good example of this entire mess. Check it out. (There might seem like alot of random bs in this story, but fuck...it kind of gives a reason as to why things happened later on in the night.) So me and Friend A get over to Friend B's house to pick his ass up and leave. We were going to take 2 cars out there tonight...one with me and A, and the other with B, this girl he's talking to, and her friend. Well, that didn't quite work out as planned because when we got there, we found out that neither of the girls were coming out due to some flake out bullshit reason. (They had to go 45 minutes the other direction to drop off somebody's cousin or some shit.) Whatever. That's fine, we were still going out to have some fun tonight. Fuck it. So anyways, we get into A's car to leave and get maybe 3 blocks from B's house and his tire goes flat. Fucking wonderful. We throw on a spare, go back to B's house, and get into his car to finally go out. We're already 40 minutes late due to the girls holding us up, and then the tire incident. So we're glad to finally be able to go out now. Well, it wasn't gonna happen, at least not in this ride...we get maybe 3 blocks away again, and we hear this crazy-grinding-scary-as-shit noise coming from the rear end of B's car. Fuck me man..seriously. We turn that car around, and creep it back to his house...park that bitch and he goes inside to get his bro's keys. Granted, we don't got super nice cars, but his brother drives this rape van looking early 90's POS. But it runs, doesnt get flats, and doesnt make weird noise. I can work past any DLV that might throw my way anyways. We finally get out to Ann Arbor in this hulking monster of a van that looks like it's only real use is transporting special needs children to the doctor's office. Thank you lord. We're here. So, we park the beast, all 3 of us pissed off as all hell, and we go and try to have as much fun as humanly possible after all of that. We get down to the club area, can't decide where to go after like 30 minutes of walking around down town trying to cool off a little bit, and decided to say fuck it...nobody's in the mood to go clubbing at this point. We'd be inside for like 30 minutes before it was time to clear out anyway. So we just kept walking around. We find ourselves in the middle of this bigass opening in the middle of the U of M campus, and B comes out and dares me to start rapping in front of everyone walking around. So fuck it..I don't give a damn at this point and figure what the hell. (I have some skills on the Mic tbh) So I start rappin some shit that I wrote like 2 years ago and it sounds pretty good. I had some people turning their heads n shit. Some nice nods, and plenty of people took notice. It was a great thing for me since I have trouble approaching or doing anything like that in public. Anyways, it got me into a pretty sociable mood, and eventually I was stoppin' random peeps walking through the square and asking them if they knew how to sing or could do anything related to music since I know a little bit about it. It was pretty cool being able to open moving sets like that with pretty much 0 experience doing it. I turned the general subject from music into how national hug day is comin up next week on Friday the 13th, and I would try and get moving sets into it by saying the following: Me:"Hey guys, are any of you gonna participate in national hug day next Friday?" Them:"Hell yeah!", "Maybe", "Of course!" (None of the sets I asked came direct with a no or anything like that, all yes, all the time.) Me:"Well in that case you know you might need some practice then! C'mere and gimme a hug!" Well, I didn't get any hugs from any of the sets, but the general vibe I got was good. Lot's of smiles and a big sense of shyness from everybody that I asked. I guess it would have been more successful if it wasn't so late at night and wasn't the middle of winter. But then again, I could be wrong and maybe it was just the wrong way to go about it. I had fun regardless though, and it definitely made me feel a confidence jump the more I did that tonight. From singing and rapping in public, to trying to get random people to give hugs. It was definitely a good way to break the Approach Anxiety I have. I would call that a pretty positive thing out of everything fucked up that happened tonight. Gonna go back out next weekend and for sure give out the free hugs though. I'm looking forward to that Lemme know what you guys think of how I did. Maybe what I can do differently next time, or anything new I can throw into that. Sorry about the length, but I thought it was a good story. ----------- TLDR: Bunch of f'd up crap happened that brought down general morale. Went to Ann Arbor, sang/rapped, opened up sets, tried to give out free hugs and had a genuine good time for about an hour. Broke some Approach Anxiety. |

Says a lot about you that you can take a horrible night and turn it around like that. If I'm ever up in Michigan, I'll DD... and it'll be a rental, so no weird noises, no flat tires, and it won't look like the Mystery Machine from Scooby Doo. Props dude! |
