It's winter break. Feeling lethargic on a Sunday, I sit around in my pajamas in my dorm all day – dirty and unshaven. I debate checking out some bars, but I tell myself “no one will be there on a Sunday night”. So I sit down to watch a movie… As I’m lying there, I hear some voices outside. It sounds like a party. Suddenly, my doorbell rings. I hear people run off. I'm being "ding-dong ditched". I walk outside and see 3 HB's running away. I go after them. They giggle and run off to a party down the hall. I walk up and check it out. I'm totally unkempt. There are about 10 girls (mostly HB’s), and less guys. I bring my guitar and play a little (I’ve used this as a routine/DHV). Some people are into it, but I’m dressed terrible, so I return to my apartment, shower quickly, shave, and head back. I’m warmly greeted by some drunk guys who ask me to play some more. I approach and dance with a few girls, but don’t get any further kino going. I get the feeling that I made a bad first impression the when I first stopped by looking dirty. After a while, some of the guys there tell me there is another party downstairs. We check it out, lo and behold, I had approached the host before, but never number closed on her. I play guitar for them for hours. I number close on the host and another girl (I didn’t even ask for them either). Reflections: -ALWAYS BE READY! Had I not been sitting around, looking like a slob, I could have made a better impression at the first party. ALWAYS be clean and kempt. -I’ve begun to realize how spontaneous life is. Your game needs to be ready when opportunity knocks (or ding-dong ditches you). -Playing guitar is GREAT DHV in a casual party SPAM. If you don’t play guitar, pick one up and learn some songs! Performing helps a lot with approach anxiety. Robert |
