FR3 (3/9/2008) My goal for tonight had nothing to do with pick up, nothing at all. I had a very, very, very bad night at work on Saturday and I wanted to go out and have a drink, or two, and try to blow off a little stress. Like anything else, the best laid plans of mice and men often go awry. I call one of my supervisors, to see if he wanted to go out for a drink. He, expectedly, told me that he was already out with a female coworker. I told him that I was planning on coming out. I met up with him about a half hour later. The bar is very quiet, it's a Sunday night, after all. I noticed a unique dynamic in the bar, I couldn't put my finger on it. I approach my friends, the female looks at me, surprised and jumps up to give me a hug and a kiss on the cheek. Before I could even greet my other friend, she was introducing me to the bartender. The bartender remembered me, got a huge smile on her face and I got a warm reception, well as warm as I could get for having a huge bar between us. (This should go to show you how important it is to not be a cheap-ass and to tip well.) So, I start BSing with my friends, the bartender comes over and joins our conversation. I ask the bartender what kind of drink my female friend is drinking because she wouldn't tell me. The bartender looks at me and says "What's in it? DrainO!" I laugh and she asks me if I'd like one. I sniff the drink, get a disgusted look on my face and decline. It actually smelled pretty good, but I didn't want it. I ordered my beer, a Gaffel Koelsch, possibly one of my favorite beers. So, my female friend tries to AMOG me a couple of times, but is easily combated when I fire right back at her. She was trying to steal my frame, quite unsuccessfully, I might add. She invited another male friend over to us to chat, I was silent and gave him negative body language, every once and a while, I would throw a joke out, he started to laugh and we started to talk, he was ignoring her. She tried to interrupt a couple of times, I gave her "the hand" and gave her the requisite "where's your off button" line. Except, since I know her, relatively well, I was actually quite harsh to her, but she can handle it, she cracked up laughing. So, I roll off of that conversation and the bartender approaches, I complement her on her Mardi Gras beads, then neg her on the service. She started kinoing me immediately. She was being very flirty all around, but she was definitely doing a little extra with me. Solid EC a couple of times, she was giggling at what I was saying, she grabbed my arm a couple of times. So, my friends order a shot, by this time the other guy had left. The bartender puts out three glasses. I pick up the one closest to me and move it toward her, "If this is for me, I'm all set." She said "okay" and put the glass back under. I'm not sure how many people turn down shots, eeh, anyways. So, maybe 20 minutes later, my friends, who obviously wanted to get wrecked, ordered another shot. This time, the bartender walked away before pouring the drinks. I again, didn't want one. Two HBs approach us and the 7 says "The bartender said that we should come over and meet you." The 4 just stands there. I didn't say anything to her, we all raised our glasses , they did their shot, I took a swig of my beer. I take a moment, obviously looking the 7 up and down and say "I like your necklace." She says "thank you" and I give her negative body language. So, she starts to talk to my male friend and I. I started to talk to the bartender again and overhear my friend and the 7 talk about work. I turn around, she looks me right in the eye and says "So, what do you do?" I snap "I'm unemployed." She questions, "By choice?" I say yes and she says in disbelief "Are you living comfortably?" I laugh and tell her that I'm living very comfortably. She proceeds to tell me that she's a teacher. I look at her, square in the eyes and tell her "You work in *X town*" Her jaw drops, "Why?" I take a calm sip of my beer, "I'm right, aren't I?" She keeps pressing me for the why and when I refused to tell her, she pressed for the question "How?" While she was asking how I knew where she worked, I continued to refuse to tell her. I finally faced her, squarely, "Look, if I told you, you wouldn't believe me." She looks at me and begs for me to tell her. "You don't believe in ESP, do you?" I looked her straight in the eyes. She took a slightly defensive posture, "No." I gave her negative body language and said "Ya see, I told you that you wouldn't believe me." She grabs my arm and orders me to tell her more things about herself. I tell her that I can't, she's too tense. "I just found this gift, within myself. I'm still honing it. Sometimes, I get a moment of clarity, like when I told you where you work, but now, it's all cloudy, plus, I refuse to do this on command." She gets a little loud with me, continuing her demands. "Look, I'm not your little monkey boy, doing tricks for you, on command." I then turned by back to her and started chatting with the bartender. A minute later, the 7 tried to butt into the conversation that I was having with the bartender. I put up my "wait a second" finger and said "I'm talking to *bartender*." At no time did I even change my body language toward the bartender, who was leaning over the bar to talk to me. I heard footsteps and turned my head around, the 7 had left and sat on a couch about 20 feet away, but continued to stare at me with her arms folded and a pouty face on. I smiled and laughed, then turned back to the bartender. My friend looks at me with astonishment "Dude, you have to go over there." I look at him, "She'll be back." The bartneder looks at me "She left?" I smile at the bartender, "She'll be back, they always come back." The bartender laughed, agreed, and kino'd me some more, by rubbing my arm. No sooner did she get done kinoing me and the 7 was back, the 4 was locked into a set of 3 AFCs a couple of stools down, she appears to be quite comfortable getting any attention, actually, I think that she reopened them from earlier. The 7 initiates conversation again, telling me where she lives. Then she asks me where I live. "I live...wait a second, why do you want to know? Listen, I've had stalkers before, it's not as fun as it sounds." The 7 laughs then I give her a very vague answer, I just tell her the city that I live in. She keeps repeating "I don't trust you" she looks at other people "I don't trust him" pointing at me, but her body language was directed toward me, both feet in my direction, she was smiling at me. I asked her, "Why don't you trust me? I don't care why, but I just want to know because I think that it's funny." She tells me that she doesn't trust me because I guessed where she works. At this time, she orders another drink and I walk away to use the men's room. When I come back, she's in a light convo with my friend. "Whatcha guys talking about?" I ask. She looks right through me, "You, we're talking about you." I smiled, "Yeah, I kinda figured." The night progresses, I bounce back and forth from 7 to bartender, both kinoing me pretty heavily. We all, for some unknown reason, start talking about the presidential race. I happen to have some pretty strong feelings on politics and the war at hand. The 7 starts to argue with me with some tree hugger argument. I disarm her with "I don't want war any more than the next guy, but if we are going to do it, we should do it right. We should be giving our men and women every tool possible to come home, alive." She tried, but couldn't come up with a good argument to counter me. The IOIs were flying. So, I start to joke with my friend some more, in typical fashion. "Ah *friend*, I'm glad to see that you wore your good jeans tonight" looking down at his ripped jeans, which obviously were not purchased that way. He then looks at her and says, "it looks like the knees on your jeans are getting a little thin." She bellows a laugh "Yeah, because I spend so much time on them." Sh actually spit it out before I could, I just wanted to see what kind of a reaction I would get. With microcalibration, I think that I could get away with saying just about anything to this chick. So, here comes the end of the night, the 7 tells the bartender that she'll be back on St. Patrick's day. She then starts to tell my friend about her plans to be at the bar on that day. I hold my hand out toward the bartender, she complies and puts her hand in mine. I tell her that I'll see her later, she thanks me for the good time (read: a couple of laughs and a generous tip). I look at the other two, pat my friend on the shoulder, "I'm out of here." The 7 steps in front of me, gives me a huge hug and a big kiss on the cheek, "Will I see you on St. Patrick's day?" I look over my shoulder as I walk out, "nope." Her jaw drops as I walk out of the bar with my friend. Again, she proclaims to her friend "I don't trust him." I could hear the smile in her voice. I walked out without closing her. I didn't feel the need to. I definitely could have, but I know that I will see her again, I've seen her several times before, at the same bar. Oh, by the way, the whole town where she works thing...I pulled it out of my ass, completely. |
