Post subject:  FR18 - openeing sets for other people is sooo much easier
FR18 San Francisco

Date: Friday February 1st 2008
Location: San Francisco, downtown then North Beach
Objective: Open sets for friends and see what happens
Outcome: Helped to secure a # and K close for a friend with a HB8

It was the day after my birthday so I invited some people out to celebrate (I'd been out the night before with the girl from my other FRs). Went into Foley's and positioned myself beside a 5 set at the bar, turns out that the two fellas in the set (considerably older) weren't with the three girls, so I worked my way in with an 'overheard fact' opener, overheard that they were from Pennsylvania so I got in there with a little tease about how they have an accent (they didn't).

There was a HB8, a HB6, and A UG3. I ignored the UG3 a little too much by concentrating on the HB6, prolly should have paid more attention to her since she kept begging for my attention. UG3 got really annoying in fact, the fact that she was married didn't stop her from rubbing my leg and doing Cartman (of South Park fame) impersonations. And boy was her voice loud and screeching! Painful to listen to.

I got a few negs into HB8 about the fact that she smokes, but the AFCs kept her occupied during most of the set. The AFC guys left and the girls were almost begging us to join them at their next venue. I'd have gone if I didn't find UG3 so annoying, her voice was unbearable!

We bounced to North Beach. One of my buddies commented on the twoset, HB9 and HB7, at the bar, then complained about them moving away to the back of the room. He kept looking over at them, and I tried to tell him not to, but it didn't register with him. So I went over and opened the set on HB7 with an opinion opener about a 'does my bum look big in this' situation that I was put in earlier in the day.

Me: "Can I ask a question? The girl I'm seeing [DHV] asked me today about a dress she was wearing at a party we were at the other night [DHV, I'm an outgoing person], she was torn to shreds verbally by another girl who had gone to the party. I gave the honest answer and told her it wasn't flattering to her figure. What would you have done?"
HB9: "Oh you did the wrong thing, girls want to be told things that make them feel better."
Me: "Oh, so you prefer guys to lie then?"

Squeezed a few minutes of convo out of this until my friends landed in the set, so I had to sarcastically thank the girls for introducing themselves and that's where the introductions came.

During the next hour I had to work hard to keep HB7 occupied. She had zero conversation skills and not much personality (which gave me plenty of negging material), but then she was quite young. She was also a bit of a cockblocker who wanted to pull HB9 out of the situation so they could go eat. Each time she brought up the subject of how tired she was and how she wanted to leave, I sympathised with her and then changed the subject.

I held the line for long enough for my buddy to # close the HB9 (who couldn't keep her hands off him by now) and he totally made out with her when it was time for goodbyes.

After that we bounced, went to an Italian eating house where my buddy opened a 2-set at the next table over (but then it got ugly when the waiters overcharged the girls and the cops arrived to resolve it), and we retired.

Analysis: I think it's easier to open sets for other people, because it reinforces the 'don't give a fuck' mindset that you need to have to get into a CF frame of mind.
