Post subject:  The Shotgun Approach (Direct Game)

This is not an exciting or impressive field report. I'm new to the game and this is an experience I had recently. Looking for feedback/criticism.

Pros: honest, direct, shows confidence, good way for beginners to learn to risk rejection
Cons: no negging or takeaways, goes against cat-string theory, gives the target the power because you are admitting you’re interested, can lead to a very short interaction

Some friends and I were going to a restaurant one night to watch the UFC fights. I noticed that the hostess was a blonde HB9. At this point I had no intention of trying to pick her up. I go up to the podium she is working at and ask for a table for 17. Afterwards, my friend said that she seemed nervous and was stuttering when she was talking to me. I honestly hadn’t noticed. I was now becoming interested.

A while later I started to consider approaching her. I was very nervous. We got to the restaurant a little after 7. By the time I finally worked up the balls to approach her it was between 8:30 and 9. As you can see, I definitely broke the 3-second rule here. I was afraid that at this point, she would think I was a creep if I approached.

You know what? Fuck it. Who cares?

I get up from the table to go talk to her. A big line of people appears at her podium. Nope, I’m a pussy. I sat back down. Finally, the line is gone; let’s try this again. All of a sudden, her manager is talking to her. Nope, I’m a pussy. I sat back down. I look back over and her manager is walking away. Manager is gone, no line, the target is isolated. Now is my chance, GO!

I approach with a smile on my face.
Smiley: Hey, this is gonna seem really random, but I think you’re super cute.
HB9: Thanks! (she was now smiling, I felt a little more confident)
Smiley: I was wondering if I could have your number?
HB9: Sure! (takes my phone)

At this point I was thinking this was all way too easy. Something had to be about to go wrong.

HB9: Wait is this like a dare or something?
Smiley: No…I just had to work up the courage to come talk to you.
HB9: (smiling) Okay, you can have it then.
HB9: Don’t you wanna know my name?

I took this as an IOI.

Smiley: Yeah, that’d probably be a good idea.

At this point, another line appears. I step out of the way so she can do her job. I take the opportunity to give my friends, who were watching from the table, a thumbs up. Yes, I gave them a thumbs up while still right next to the target. Whatever. The line is gone and she turns back to me.

Smiley: By the way, I’m Smiley.
HB9: I’m HB9.

She hands the phone back to me with her number in it.

Smiley: Alright, thanks, I’ll call you sometime.
HB9: Okay!

I return to my table and enjoy a good meal and awesome fights.

I mean it went pretty well. I got her number, which was my goal. I feel like there couldn't be that much of an interaction because she was working at the time. Feel free to tell me what I did right/wrong. That's what I'm here for.
