FR16 - Opened sets and # close Location: North Beach, San Francisco Objective: Open more sets than before and see what happens Outcome: # close with HB8 MILF Went sarging again with Jamjamboy, we agreed that three would be a better number than two, we need one more. I went in through the door of the pub and opened a two set within a minute or two, just to get the juices flowing. Followed up a little bit with them after JJB joined me but didn't work too hard on it. They were quite receptive though, maybe in future I'll push a bit more with the warmup set. We moved to the back of the bar and sat in a few locations, I made a little bit of small talk with random people to avoid looking like an AFC. After moving to the back of the pub I motivated myself to open a 3 set at the bar, left to right they were HB6, HB8 and HB8.5. I went in between HB6 and HB8. The opener was a general question about caller ID and how people don't answer their phones as much anymore, and have they noticed a reduction in the proportion of their calls that get answered. My target was HB8.5 (obviously) but I opened on HB6 and paid no heed to the target until I was introduced. HB8.5 was called Kim, I suggested it was an Indian name (she disagreed) and I said "well let's ask the expert" and brought JJB into the set. Convo went well, I got the standard negs and DHVs in, HB8.5 bounced (somewhere to go) which is unfortunate, so I concentrated on HB8 who turned out to be a MILF. Some AMOGs showed up who knew HB6 and they were all over her, I just let them work away and turned my back on all that while I focussed on HB8. Threw in a little bit of kino by rubbing her back to comfort her when she feigned injury as a result of some neg I used. I had to push for the # close but succeeded when I convinced her that I was gonna call. JJB was left out a little again, which is why three is better than two. If there were three of us then the other two could have gone off and worked some other set while I handled this. Anyway, we bounced soon after and I suggested the City Lights Bookstore which could be a good hunting ground. It closes at midnight and we were too late. On to the famous Vesuvio. Positioned ourselved up beside a young two set (HB6 and HB8), but took forever to open them. By the time I opened them they were about to leave. They were from out of state. I thought it'd be interesting to see how long we could keep their interest, and we held them in position for a good ten minutes even though one of them had her coat on. Soon after that we bounced because I had some people to meet and so had JJB. Outside I saw the two-set waiting for a taxi, they were going to (roughly) the same part of town I was going to, so I offered to share the taxi and they agreed. I stepped out in a manly way and assertively flagged down a cab (It's amazing how many girls say 'wow' when I do that). Got out at Ruby Skye and walked the rest, had a scare with losing my keys but by good luck they were still in the back seat when I went back to the cab that mercifully hadn't moved. Landed in the bar with my friends who had a HB7 with them, I assumed she was in a relationship with one of them, but I later learned he'd only met him right there. I opened a little two-set (HB7 and HB8) by asking them what it was about the AFC at the bar that was leading them to check him out so hard. They were peacocking aplenty so there was plenty of negging fodder there. They pulled out before I could close the 8 though, didn't have enough comfort built up to justify a close. I think they were wasted anyway, so I didn't read too much into the IOIs. After that I went back to my group and one of them remarked that I've been on a bit of a roll for the last few months and I'm a changed man. Had some good chat with the 7 who had hooked up with my friend, plenty of C/F. Review: I really enjoyed the night. Multiple locations make it very interesting. |

You are doing well Speed-Bird! I enjoy reading your progress in your field reports. Bouncing to multiple locations to keep the venue fresh is always a good idea. Frequently I'll hang out in a small bar until it gets busy at the club across the street. I'll flirt with the hired guns in the bar, and open the few sets there are, talk to the regulars. Then when 11pm rolls around I'll go into the club do my thing, if it sucks, I'll move to another venue. It helps from a particular venue being sarged out. |

I enjoyed this field report... makes me want to go back and read some of your others. Good Job! The way you've written here, it sounds like you were really laid back and just had fun with it. That's the way it should be. You also allowed yourself to experiment, calibrate at times, and be generally detached from the outcome. |
