| Post subject: | Two fails - what could I have done better? |
Hi, Was out tonight with a mate and had two possible openings but made mistakes in both cases. I think I can point out the mistakes - and utterly sure I could have done things better, but not sure how, so any advice is appreciated. Apologies for the length No 1: At a bar while waiting for a mate to turn up, opening wasnt exactly brilliant (mistake 1)- just asked for a pint, but also asked if she had a long day, we had a little banter and the subject turned to her age, she told me she was 23, I (hopefully this wasn't too cheeky) said she didnt look a day over 26 - done with a smile on my face. I asked her to guess my age - i always get told i look younger than I am - she guessed 27, told her I was 33, she said she would have never guessed. We chatted some more about nothing in particular, I made her laugh and then wandered off to find a seat, mate turned up at the right moment really so didnt have to chat to other randoms. She wandered past bit later and I made her laugh again and tried to score a free drink from her, which again made her laugh. Went back to the bar as was leaving and she smiled said "it was lovely to meet you rob", and I (dumbly? - mistake 2 maybe?) responded "it was lovely to meet you too, but I am sorry i have forgotten your name (which was the truth). She looked a little put out and I told her I was terrible with names which was poor as I should remember kids names as I was a teacher. She asked what year and I said senior school, I couldnt deal with small kids (she mentioned she likes playing with her little nephew earlier), made her laugh with a story about when I covered a lesson in the junior school, and then (mistake 3 definitely) said 'lovely to chat to you but have to shoot' (which again was the truth but certainly not the right thing to do). PS: Might be back at same pub tomorrow so how might I be able to reopen? No 2: On train home and 3 girls sitting further down the carriage, Im certain one of them looked at me for a while, but as I have never opened on a group of girls before it took me a while to get some courage - kept wondering if she was looking at me or someone else (definitely a mistake as pretty certain it was me she was looking at me). Anyway I manned up and went over and opened on the target with the like what you are wearing, need birthday present for a friend, similar style opener. Negged her slightly about her (fake?) nails and asked her friend (turning my body away from target) what they had been doing tonight, told them about my night (BBQ with a bunch of mates and then out with a buddy), made them all laugh about something that had happened at the BBQ, they asked what I did and I told them but said it wasnt really what I do but just my job. Tried (I hope this was the right thing to do) to display DHV with some of the other things I do - learning acoustic guitar, mountain biking and then ...... I was at my stop as was on the last train so had no choice but to leave (paying fuck all attention to time was a definite mistake here). What could I have done better? Gaining confidence with the game but still have a lot to learn so any advice is appreciated. |

rflook, I have read your previous posts, and the way I see it, you are progressing. But aim for perfection. First of all, for No.1, you had a great routine in opening up the target and sarging her through the time, but one thing I have seen in your previous posts is that you never number closed. So, since she stated "it was lovely to meet you rob", instead of saying "lovely to chat to you but have to shoot", say something like "As much as I'd love to stay and chat, but I really have to go. I'd like to get to know you more better, lets exchange phone numbers or "I can't stay long, but you look like someone I wanna know, Period!! (take out your phone) Fill in your number.." or "I have to go.. Your cool / you guys are cool. I like long walks on the beach.. (take out your phone)Join me" - My cup of tea, works everytime Or make up something that leads to numbers. Never ask her number, just end your speech in full stop, make a statement and she won't say no, trust me It's the same for number 2, but bear in mind you should know your time limit. I hope you find my piece useful, but keep updating. Practice makes perfect, and remember to have fun. All the best, cheers.. |
