Post subject:  The Stylelife Challenge - Chaos's Journal

Background

I read The Game over fours ago and developed an interest in the pick up arts. Using my new skills I met a girl and started a relationship. It was the first serious relationship I ever had but two weeks ago we broke up.

Now I am once again delving into the world of PUAs, psychology, personal development, attraction, NLP and a dozen other related fields. This isn't just about going out and meeting woman again, it's about everything - I want to create a new me.

To kick-start the process I've dusted off The Rules of the Game and I'm going to complete the Stylelife Challenge. And what's more I'll be keeping an online journal!

Rules
  • There are 30 days in total but I'll not be completing them consecutively as I have other commitments. I reckon it'll take me about 3 months to complete.
I may read ahead in order to plan ahead even though Strauss doesn't recommend this.
I have to complete every single mission even if (especially if) I am really nervous
So let's get stuck in, I completed Day 1 last night.

Day 1

The main mission for Day 1 is to make small talk with 5 strangers. I was heading out with a few mates to a club last night and I thought f*ck it, I may as well do it now and the strangers may as well be hot girls.

To be honest I'm still sorting some things out in my head with regards the break up with my gf. So I didn't even want to pull any girls last night, I just wanted to do 5 approaches and get them over with.

Small Talk #1

Context: HB9 has just been to the bar and is walking back to her friends.

Chaos: Hey, what's your favourite type of muffin?
HB9: *smiles* Chocolate chip! *Walks on*

Ok, good. That wasn't so bad.

Small Talk #2

Context: HB8 standing at edge of dancefloor

Chaos: Hey, what's your favourite type of muffin?
HB8: Blah, Blah, Blah *turns back to friends*

To be honest, I was getting kinda drunk at this point.

Small Talk #3

Context: HB7 alone in a booth

This one went well, I can't remember exactly what was said but her friends were obviously someplace else and she was happy to have someone to talk too. She knew I was flirting with her and she started talking about her boyfriend in America or something. Anyway, on leaving I asked for a kiss on the cheek and I got it :) Go me.

After this point I danced for a bit and whatever and then made 2 more approaches. There went similar to the first two.

Mission complete!

Things to consider:
Don't drink as much. It was the first time I'd been out in ages and I was partying! But I need to get my game up to speed and that means capping the drinks at 2 or 3.

I like the muffin opener, but I need more material that will follow on from their responses.

A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step and I think I should give myself a pat on the back for making a start :P

Day 2 will follow shortly

I'm gonna join you here if you don't mind. Starting tomorrow with day 1. So we can compare results. Deal?

Also good to keep each other motivated.

Sure thing dude - motivation is the key!

I'm planning on completing Day 2 tomorrow. I'm going to go to a mall and talk to 5 strangers again. For the Day 2 mission I need to record their eye colour.

Day #2

I'm not going to write here about some of the more personal missions such as mission 1 on Day 2 which involves identifying goals. I'd like to retain some amount of anonymity and the more practical field missions will be more entertaining anyway!

Mission #2: Look into your Eyes

Ok this mission involved downloading a self-hypnosis track and listening to it. I downloaded it, lay down, started listening, closed my eyes...and fell asleep. Doing self-hypnosis right after a hectic day at work probably isn't the best time.

I like these kind of exercises though - I've listened to Hypnotica's confidence CD before. So I shall listen to this again from time to time.

Mission #3: Look into Their Eyes

This mission involved starting a conversation with five strangers and noting their eye colour.

Stranger #1: Guy in elevator. We talked about the weather and he had blue eyes.

After that I went to the mall to do the remaining 4 approaches. I was in a department store and spotted a couple of viable strangers. But then AA set in and I didn't approach any of them :( Which is rather strange because I had no bother with AA in the club the other night. But in any case I've decided to move on and come back to this later. I'll be out in a bar/club within the next week and I'll be sure to get 4 more eye colours.

Day #3

Mission #1: Adopt the Caveman Hygiene Method

Gross.

This mission involved not showering/shaving for the whole day. This is particularly difficult for me - it just feels wrong to not have a shower in the morning. But I am enduring it.

The purpose btw is realise that most people don't care how you look, their too preoccupied with their own appearance.

Mission #2: Speak with Confidence

This mission involved some exercises to improve you're voice. This is absolutely great stuff, I've bookmarked this section because I want to do the exercises regularly until this stuff is second nature. For example I thought I spoke with a normal pace but after reviewing myself on my phone and playing it back I realise I speak way to fast. Now I'm conscious of that and I can work to slow down and develop a voice that 'commands authority' in Strauss's words.

Mission #3: Find Mr. Moviefone

This mission involves phoning random strangers and asking them to recommend a movie. I remember this from The Game!

But I think this is a really silly exercise and I watered it down a bit - I phoned 3 people and asked for 'Katee' and when they said I must have got a wrong number I just appologised and hung up.

The first one was a sweet old lady and she was like 'Oh don't worry it happens to the best of us!' I was gona ask if she had any daughters but I refrained.

The second was just some dude.

The third was like 'Katee who?' and I was like oh shit what do I say? So I just said 'Katee Sackoff' LOL (if you don't know, thats the actress that plays Starbuck in Battlestar Galactica). Anyway thank goodness there wasn't a Katee Sackoff in the house and the conversation ended.

Day #3 complete, bring on Day #4.

I'm just back from a club and I wanted to get some thoughts out before I hit the hay.

I didn't make any cold approaches but I was meeting a friend who had some of her HB friends with her and I attempted to engage them. Poorly.

They were very unresponsive and the club was loud as fuck, I mean louder than normal clubs. I found myself having to repeat myself a lot. I kept thinking back to the vocal exercises from The Rules of the Game. I need to work harder on projecting my voice.

Tonight also made me aware just how important non-verbal communication is in a club environment. Sometimes it is impossible to have a conversation and non-verbal communication is literally all you have.

One thing I was happy with was my posture. I came up with a neat little trick to keep myself standing up straight: I put my phone in the breast pocket of my shirt and don't button it. This means I need to stand up straight because if I lean forward or slouch it feels like the phone is going to fall out. And when I feel the phone about to fall out it reminds me to stand up straight.

Anyway zero solid results tonight but I have a million and one things I can work on and that't keeping me motivated.

Oh and a final point - I was completely sober tonight but I managed to dance a little - that's something I used to never do unless I was hammered.

A return to Day #2

In my Day 2 report I only managed to get one stranger's eye colour. Well I went out last night to a bar and then a club and got the remaining four!

Stranger #2

As we were walking to the bar a drunken student approached us and started chatting. I wasted no time and asked for his eye colour. Brown.

Stranger #3

Great set this. I was in the beer garden chatting with my mates about football and my friend noticed a guy next to us who had an impressive looking camera. I was feeling sociable and got talking to him. He said cameras are great because if it's impressive looking you can just go around the bar taking pictures of hot girls - they just assume you're a promo photographer hired by the bar.

He told me to take the camera and try it out. Right enough I went up to a three-set with 2 girls and a guy and took all their pictures. Not only that but they were really receptive and happy to pose. I asked one of the girls her eye colour - they were green.

After this set it hit me that asking a girl her eye-colour is a decent opener in its own right.

Stranger #4
This was especially fun.

I was with my mate in a quiet part of the bar and we spotted a 2-set in the corner. I knew I was going to approach but it took a few minutes just to build up the confidence. Finally I just bit the bullet and walked over. I asked my target her eye colour - brown. Then I went straight into the best-friend routine. Then an an amazing thing happened. Perhaps 90 seconds had passed, less even but we had already reached the hook-point. They wanted us to stay. The bar was quiet, they were out looking for a fun night out and they wanted guys to approach them and flirt. Simple as that.

Eventually we had to go find our friends, this night was about getting eye-colours and I was happy with my progress so we moved on.

Stranger #5
A really cute blonde came up to me and asked were the bathrooms were (they had closed the usual ones for some reason). Before she went I asked for her eye colour, she gave me a quizzical look but answered "blue" and I think I saw a hint of a smile there.

Day #2 completely finished now!

Day #4

Mission #1: Hit the showers

Easy enough!

Mission #2: Ask an Expert

This mission involves asking 3 women for recommendations for mens clothes stores. I'm actually skipping this. The purpose of these missions and the previous missions were to help me feel comfortable talking to strangers. But I feel I'm ready now to talk to woman with the sole purpose of seducing them. Expecially after the set from my last post were I approached a set and reached the hook-point within about a minute.

Mission #3: Stand Up Straight

Simple exercise to help with keeping good posture.

Very important and it's something I need to consciously work on until I am unconsciously walking around with good posture.

Day #5

Mission #1: Here Comes the Groom

This involves male grooming and the task is simply to do at least one thing from a long check-list.

I'm pretty enthusiastic about male grooming anyway but I ordered a magnifying mirror and some high-quality tweezers. These are for managing my eyebrows.

I'm seriously considering getting a manicure or a facial. I'll keep my eye open for male friendly beauty parlours.

Mission #2: Make a Change

The goal of this mission is to buy a new outfit. So I went out and got a pair of stylish jeans and a new shirt :)

Mission #3: Brush Up

This involves reviewing an exercise from a past day. I repeated the vocal exercises because I think they're fantastic.

Mission #4 Lay Out Your School Clothes

The whole mission is summed up in the title. Day #6 sounds interesting...

Keep it going bro!
Thank you for your support! I've been preoccupied with some other important things lately but I finally completed day 6.

Day #6

The main mission for Day 6 is to compliment 4 woman. Strauss recommends complimenting something specific like her nails or handbag.

Compliment #1 - Red Dress

I was in a bar with a few mates and there was a 2-set sat opposite us. I told one of them her red dress was very pretty. I wasn't lying either, I like it when women wear bold clothing.

There was a hilarious moment later that night when I turned to my friend and said "You know all the woman in this bar are a 5 at the most" and a girl close to use turned round and gave me a dirty look. I may have said that a bit too loud...

Compliment #2 - Tattoo

Same venue I approached a 4-set and mentioned to a girl I loved her tattoo and asked her did it have a special meaning? She replied "It's kinda personal" and turned back to her friends.

In hindsight I think she might have been a lesbian. Actually on a general note I find it difficult to determine when someone is gay (girl or guy) even though I have a handful of gay friends. I have a disfunctional 'Gay-dar'

Compliment #3 - Shop assistant

This one was easy, I bought a new ring and I told the shop assistant she was very helpful. She actually was helpful, she let me try on about 5 sizes before I got the right fit.

Compliment #4 - The performer

I was at a comedy show the other night and got talking to some of the performers after the show. I told nearly every one of them that they did a good job.

I have a certain envy of performers like that, it takes a lot of confidence to get on a stage and entertain people.

Righteo, I'll be back here with Day 7 in a couple of days.
