Hey guys, so I'm not normally a really shy guy, but I am shy about approaching HB6+'s in the field. I can get a HB5 easily, but that isn't the point, the POINT is to get a HB 7-10 obviously. Therefore, I decided that I should do the noob challenge and try to walk up to 100 girls and just say hi, or use an opener, or whatever, just to get used to it. Today I did 6 girls...i know this is weak, but this is my first outing in the field. #1 Went up to a HB6 hanging with a HB7.5, said "OMG did you see those two girls outside starbucks, they were fighting over some guy...." you know the opener. HB6 : "You're lying, there's a tell" ME: "What tell?" HB6: "uh i dunno, something with your face...." ME: "so demonstrate, tell me a lie" HB6: "Ok, i'm having fun at the mall" ME: "Oh, ha ha why aren't you having fun here" HB6: "oh you know, shopping sux" HB7.5: "Ok ya we gotta go buh byes" >bitch shield on full strength Captain< I feel like if I had negged the HB7.5 about her being the cause of the boredom, maybe that situation would have gone better. Any commentary? #2,#3 Walked up to a couple girls and said "Excuse me, my name is Manny the Martain, what's your favorite flavor of bowling ball"? --in both cases I just got blank stares, and the girl kind of walked off in disbelief. I just wanted to try this because Style mentioned it in "The Game", and I laughed my ass off #4, #5, #6 I said "Hey there" to a girl, who turned her head a full 180 deg looking at me, and then I said "Hi" to a couple of girls who 100% blew me off. In Summary: I'm a bitch and in ~4 hours I should have been able to approach more women, although it dosen't help that i'm visiting family in Vancouver and 75% of the women here are HB4's (if you don't dig asian women this town isn't so great). I am going to get at it again tomorrow or sunday, and try for 10 approaches. Any tips, suggestions, help?? Thx. |

quite frankly it's very silly to say you can get a hb5 and not a hb7 or whatever.. your reading into their looks ways too much. either you wanna bag 'em or you dont, treat them the same.. maybe more negs to the super fine ones. but dude that many approaches is good for your first sarge night. Perhaps you need to work on delivery of the opener? And just saying Hi rarely works.. try an opinion opener. |

How many approaches do most people do on a first sarge? I swear man....when you're starting off it's pretty intimidating. You are right though, I had thought that "hi" would be a good way to overcome shyness (even if i didn't expect it to go anywhere)--but it's not. Using an opener is EASIER, because you aren't left standing there like a dummy. |

murfster, a few things to help you open more sets. Yes its intimidating when u start out, it gets easier tho man. Unfortunatly the only way for it to get easier is for you to open more sets! Some may disagree, and i dont like to encourage drinking, but a few beers usually makes even the shyest people get out there and open. You will be AMAZED at how the canned openers work, i would say canned openers work on 9 out of 10 sets. If you get bitch shield be prepared. The key is to plow. Once u get through the opener just keep talking. One of mysterys guys said, "if you keep talking you will be forgiven for all your mistakes" and thats true most of the time. Just keep talking, and try to keep it funny. Heck, if u run out of material you can even go AFC and ask about where they are from, what they do, etc....JUST KEEP TALKING. Once u get a little better at it you will let off on the talking a bit and do sume push pull, but that takes time to develop. Try rehersing at home by yourself. It definatly helps, then try in the mirror. Keep your body language tight, like superman. And remember, more than anything, THEY ARE ONLY GIRLS, they put on a good act but u r way above them. They are just girls!!!!!!! |

That's good advice, to just keep talking. Unfortunately I have family stuff for the next several days so I won't be able to have another go at this until probably new years, but I was wondering if telling jokes was a good idea. I've always liked slightly cheesy jokes, here are a couple: So a horse walks into a bar, what does the bartender say to him? Why the long face? What's a gay cow have for dinner? Hey >gay little hand flip< What do you think? Got any better jokes? |

Quote: go AFC and ask about where they are from, what they do, etc. Hey Kinosec, do you really think that's an AFC thing? I use that stuff all the time. Is there any argument not to use it? Is it just that it's hard to be memorable when using what everyone else is using?I use the 'where are you from' thing to open up a pre-prepared thread about accents, usually involving a couple of negs. It's not terribly clever, but it's a reasonably interesting bit of conversation that girls seem to dig. I've been doing some research on language to improve that thread, and I'm developing it into a routine that involves getting them to say a few words so I can hear how they pronounce them. |
