Post subject:  Scientifically how to make yourself more attractive

I just watched a 4-hour documentary on what beauty is, and what defines beatiful people.

It is basically concluded that the more you fit the golden ration (1:1.618) the more attractive you are.

What this means to you....

Using these measurements, you can determine if you should spike your hair to make your head longer, or keep it short to make it shorter.

If you should grow a beard to make your face wider, or shave clean to keep it thinner.

likewise, not just in the face, but in your body composure. This ration can tell you if you where your shirt should come to (length wise) in relation to your height, in order to make this ration appear.

here's what I did (I am OCD a bit, and definately type-A personality). I took very close up pictures of my face and measured the width of my mouth to my nose when smiling, and determined how much wider I should smile for it to be optimal (or shirnk my nose :/ )

etc, etc, etc.

here are some key measurements you can take and improve your style.

this ration should appear in the following (these are just some of them)

distance from floor to naval, and naval to top of head (you can manipulate this ration by wearing your shirt waists lower or higher)

width of mouth, to width of nose (determine how big you should smile)

width of head, to length of head (can determine if you should have big hair, or short hair....or beard or no beard)

This ration is pretty much everywhere. if you want to change your style.....use it

otherwise, feel free to bash, haha. I know I'm OCD :D

This is actually pretty interesting. You have any links to the documentary or the name of it?

It is equalisation of facial features, to achieve proportion, symmetry and balance. If your face is very straight edge, ease it out with slightly smooth lined glasses etc.

How big should I smile? As big as I want, not what some saddo In a lab coat calculates as optimum.

It's called "The Human Face" (2001).

haha  You can take it as far as you want man. Using it to see how big to smile might be going to far, but it CERTAINLY is good for pointing out things on your face and body that you should accentuate in order to fit this ratio.

In the documentary there is a 'mask' (it's a clear sheet of paper you size and put up to a head shot) and there were studies done for people to rate an assortment of people's attractiveness. 98% of people from many different cultures put the faces in the same order and this order correlates with the ratio-mask.

here is a video that explains it a little bit. from this video, for example, you can take away that men should
-not pluck or wax the hair under the eyebrow.
-That men may benefit from sideburns which mimic the shadow which a deeper jaw would make.
-And if you start going bald, to shave your head so shallow hair-line doesn't show,
-or if you just have a far hariline, to come your hair forward or to the side, as opposed to back.

After your suggestion, I checked it out from the library, not bad, it is more than just ratio's, it talks about facial gestures, etc. but it is pretty nice.

AMEN!

You really shouldn't focus on how wide you should smile! Man, that's one of most ridiculous things I've ever heard. Instead of doing that, go out and learn something.
Learn to dance, pick up the guitar, become a better conversationalist, learn some random cool things such as rolling a quarter across your fingers or juggling even!

Go hit the gym; that'll improve your game far more than a beard. =)

haha, you guys are pretty harsh.

there are some FAR LESS usefull things posted on these boards that get way too much attention

it's interesting to know how this ratio works. i was just throwing out some 'off the top of my head' ideas as to how one might apply it. I think it's pretty damn interesting that beauty can be understood scientifically.

shit man, I do take dance lessons, and i do play guitar at plenty of bars in my area. i've got my act together, don't hate so much, we're all here to learn

also. if you can spend so much time creating your avatar, then why not incorperate if you want a beard or not? it makes perfect sense. there is so much talk about which watch to get, it makes just as much sense to think about how your hair should look

I have heard about number ratio's as well. In, my psychology class, we discussed how symmetry is one of the big indicators of "good genes" that we want to pass on to our offspring. It works for both men and women in attraction. Every single woman to ever be a Playboy center fold has had the same waist to hip ratio. Regardless of the changing styles of bigger busty women of the 50's pinups, or the more fit centerfolds of today. The ratio always remains. For women seeking men, they find more masculine features attractive during the point of ovulation (i.e. 5 o'clock shadows, strong chins, athletic bodies, even balding!).

Anyone who thinks the first post on this page about the beauty special on TV was "bullshit," I hate to break it to you, but it is true. It's hardwired into our brains as mammals to seek indicators of good genes. It would be wise to open your mind to the possibilities of new ideas being true. Ignorance is Hell.
