| Post subject: | Walk Confidently |
Many people talk about walking confidently, well I decided to make a thread out of it and I also need some Advices, is it ok to be cocky during your walk? 1. Walk smoothly(feel like walking over water) 2. Hold your head up high -- this is where most people have problems with, feel the top of your spine behind your head ( a ball above your neck), straighten your spine and hold your head, nobody would bite you-- 3.I like to add a little hand swagger to it (is it too cocky? need answers) I also like swing my body around like im bouncing off my foot. 4.HOLD EYE CONTACT-- don't walk around looking confident and dodging eye contacts! 5. MOST IMPORTANT ----- "FAKE IT TILL YOU MAKE IT!" 6. nobody would be comfortable the first time they start walking like this Last thought : Is it ok to have a cocky walk? I feel like im having fun, but my friends feel weird around me.. |

Its fine to have cockiness in your walk, but don't over do it and don't do it all the time either. Other wise people think your just full of it and won't want to talk to you. |

On day ago there was "The pacifier" on tv with vin diesel. I saw him walking down stairs with this nice arm movement... Upper arm parallel to your body, lower arm bent by somewhat 90 degrees. Both hands are the same as you would show someone to call (you know, making your hand like a phone receiver), the same as making a drinking gesture with hand I try to use it casually now when walking down stairs, looks bad ass! Style mentions the "Alexander Technique" in his 30 day game book. It's about standing and walking up straight. Heads UP is a key for success. Shows confidence and such. But I wonder about my hands when walking normal! I don't know the "perfect" movement. When I want to stand out from the crowd (basically everytime I walk on the streets) I usually make loose fists or try to have all 4 fingers sprawled while not looking "stiff". Any other suggestions? |

Seriously, I think you should just follow the rules, and when you walk you want it to show your energy, it might be sexual, fun or just angry(STAY AWAY FROM ME!) you can tell when someone is being really playful or you should just leave them alone for a while by their walk. |

| Post subject: | What Works For Me |
Here's what I have had recent success with and it has yet to fail me...anywhere. At work, a bar, the street, in the mall... you get the point. When I was young I had a serious slouching problem and my mother rectified the situation my making me sit straight and putting a yard stick in the back of my shirt. (I know this sounds a little "Kathy Bates in Misery" mixed with "Catholic School Nun" but it was for my own good and she wasn't mean about it.) Well as a result I am now very concious about when I am slouching. I catch myself quickly and fix it. My point is I naturally walk and sit pretty erect. But for those of you who might not catch yourselves as easily, the best thing to do is make the concious effort to tighten the abdomen and roll the shoulders back (not too far). It will feel wierd at first because to you it might seem like everyone else thinks you have a stick up your ass or something. But the more you make a concious effort of doint this, the more often you will notice when you are not. Practice in front of a mirror. Just like you would practice a line, or facial expressions in a mirror you can do the same with posture. As for swinging arms and the fists thing, it's really something you can control, but you don't want to overdo it and look un-natural. The posture takes some getting used to, but that will get you noticed. Swing the arms naturally and keep loose fists (like when you roll die). You don't want to look like a robot keeping your hands stiff, or not swinging at all. The swinging of arms should kinda match the "beat" of your walk without looking like you're over-exaggerating. The "strut"...well what works for me with strutting is basically just walking and putting a **slight** emphasis on either the left or right step while at the same time **slightly** (and it cannot be stressed enough, the subtlety is important because it IS noticed, but going overboard makes you look like a clown)turning the torso with the **slightly** heavier step. Keep the neck up and align your spine by tightening the abdomen. Lift the chin just a hair and make it a point to keep eye contact with whoever you look at for about 1.5 to 2 seconds. And most importantly: Smile! Energy is key. |

I wonder, keep EC with everybody?? People think you want something when doing EC on the streets, but if you just walk by you make them confused |

| Post subject: | EC |
Sorry, I was thinking in my own rationalized terms. My personal reason for EC isn't to actually make it intentionally, it's only to hold it for a second with someone who may have locked eyes with me. I use it as an "I see you see me" kinda way. For male or female. The point I was trying to make, and failed to obviously, was that when you first enter the room and look for a set you will be scanning for a few seconds, but not long enough to make EC w/ everyone. But in the event you do make EC, it's simply an acknowledgement of presence. So like when I'm walking on the street, instead of looking down or away to avoid the EC with a complete stranger, I give a brief look to the face, if they make EC, I give a smile and a nod. If I'm in a bar or club and make EC with someone I give a smile and the "what's up" nod as if to acknowledge that "I'm here, you're here, it's all good. Have fun." I don't know maybe I just have this rationalized in my own head. If it's a mistake let me know, I'm just going with what's not failed yet, but it could I guess, I never know. |
