Post subject:  Facial hair?!?!

I don't know what to do with my facial hair. I've asked girls, but I always get the "I don't know" response.

I like what I have now, but I know there's something better for me.

Right now, I just let it grow out and shape it a little bit on the underside of my chin. I even it out, etc.

Like this.

I want to change it, to make it look a little more groomed. You can tell I trim it, but it's not obvious I spend time on it. I was thinking..
1. kinda like Johnny Depp's mustache/soul patch/chin combo
Image

2. Just a soul patch

or

3. Clean shaven.

I'm really considering the first one, because it fits a lot of people. Brad Pitt, Johnny Depp, Neil Strauss, etc etc etc.

I don't want to copy people, but I want to change my style. Any opinions/stories on how you came about your style?

roll with what ever STYLE you dig bro,

if it works it works....

what ever makes you comfortable.

dude last weekend i went to a dress up party, the theme was Alice in wonder land.....dude i went as Alice.

I had blush on my cheeks, a dirty mustache and sock's as tits, at least 2 HB's grabbed them....and i said....."hey, don't just grab a womans breasts like that, how does it feel when i do it to you (honk)?" they let me grab theirs back...it was magic, and they loved it.

from that night, it made me realize it doesn't matter what you look like, its how you feel and an express that energy inside.

Go with more the Johnny Depp look.
Don't do the soul patch thing. Doesn't seem to suit your look.

In my opinion, you should do whatever is the most "comfortable and easiest" to maintain, for you are the one who will ultimately have to deal with your facial hair upkeep. It really doesn't matter how you grow your facial hair as long as you are comfortable with how it looks. Remember, you should be comfortable in your own appearance, and confidence will radiate from you.

Speaking of facial hair, I found this interesting article:

Quote:

Impressions of the male personality as a function of beardedness

"...the male beard communicates an heroic image of the independent, sturdy, and resourceful pioneer, ready, willing and able to do manly things."
Psychologist Robert J. Pellegrini reported in Psychology, 1973, Volume 10, No. 1, the results of an experiment on the perception of male personality as a function of varying states of beardedness. To carry out the experiment, Pellegrini hired eight full-bearded young men who were willing to have their beards fully shaved off for a payment of ten dollars. All of the full-bearded men were caucasians. Their ages ranged from 22 to 25 years.

Each of the bearded participants was professionally photographed in each of the following states of beardedness:

full beard
goatee and mustache
mustache
clean-shaven
Other than the changing state of beardedness, all other variables were kept constant from photograph to photograph.

Upon completion of the photographic sessions, there were a total of thirty-two photographs: four photos of each of the eight participants. The photos were randomly distributed to subjects who were asked to rate their first impressions on a number of personality traits. The subjects evaluating the photos consisted of sixty-four male and sixty-four female introductory psychology students. Each photo was judged by two males and two females.

The tabulation of the results showed a generally positive correlation between the amount of hair on the object person's face and his being perceived as masculine, mature, good-looking, dominant, self-confident, courageous, liberal, non-conforming, and older. The results also suggested a similar correlation regarding perceptions of intelligence, strength, health, and likableness. In view of the results, Pellegrini suggested that the presence of hair on a young man's face is associated with an idealized image of the male personality.

Pellegrini cautioned that the results of this study may not necessarily be generalized beyond the population that participated in the experiment. The bearded men were all young men. The results could be different for older bearded men. Similarly, the subjects judging the young bearded men were themselves college freshmen. Older subjects may have different impressions of beardedness.

In his discussion of the experiment's results, Pellegrini stated, "Judging from the data in the present research, the male beard communicates an heroic image of the independent, sturdy, and resourceful pioneer, ready, willing and able to do manly things." He finished his discussion by stating, "In conclusion, it may very well be true that inside every clean-shaven man there is a beard screaming to be let out. If so, the results of the present study provide a strong rationale for indulging that demand."

A big part of the game and being a PUA is that you have to not give a flying shit what people think about you. Granted always wearing clean clothes is a must for picking up girls. Facial hair... Pick a style but make sure its groomed if a girl doesn't like your facial hair who cares. You are a man of power and you do what you want when you want thats a fact jack!

I'd go with everyone else here and pick what style fits you best. Grow it out a little bit and start with the one that has the most facial hair. If you don't like it, trim it up, shave it off into another one, etc. That's basically what I did. And I realized I look so much better clean shaven.

Being that I have very little facial hair, I love the soul patch. It's very easy to manage as well so it always looks neat.

I agree completely with silver.tongue. That said, I think, give the amount of facial hair you have ( I have a lot myself) I would opt for the third option. Go clean shaven mate, you don't have a lot to work with.

Just my opinion, but that's what you asked for right?

A couple of things I've noticed: Having any form of a bread makes you look older (mustaches are just ugly, but that's my opinion). BUT, some girls don't like the irritation from your scratchy facial hair when you're kissing them. In fact, I've had more girls praise me for my being clean shaven, than for having a goatee (when I used to have one). But I also take a lot more pride than most when shaving. I followed a link from the site awhile back and started using the five step method to shaving, including getting myself an old style Badger-hair Brush to lather. And finally, I'll only shave really good when I know some girl will be touching my face. Other than that, I just do a quick job in the shower every other day. If you want to know the five step process, send me a message and I'll be more than happy to help.

I went with a goatee...mainly because I kept cutting my lip and chin when I shaved. But then I realized it looked good on me so I kept it.
You need to find out what looks best for you.
One trick I have used is, use your dilemma as an opener. Go up to women, and ask for their opinion on facial hair.

Who cares what girls think guys, do whatever that suits you the best. The sentence above shows that some of us still need validation from girls including me, so lets change our mindsets first. We care about what we think, not a HB7 or 10.

I personally get attention when i am stubble more than when i am clean shaved, 3rd day after a clean shave is the best looks and results i get.

I have one question though, how do you keep the stubble hair without a clean shave every 3 days??

Try using an electric shaver/beard trimmer

If you're really concerned about the way you look, i suggest you research the 'golden ratio'. It's a nerdy/scientific approach to improving your looks, but it may help you decide what the best look for your face (and rest of body) is. For example, if your chin is a bit pointy, a goatee can give it a broader look.
You can search previous posts or google it. Hope this helps.
