So ive noticed alot of posts asking "what should i wear?", "What style should i go with?"...etc...of course all WIHTOUT pictures or descriptions of your flavor...(btw feel free to ask for advice on how you look/should look in these forums, but provide pictures and descriptions) What ive decided to do is write a little guide on how to start the transformation process and finding your style. These of course will be general guidelines but should help you advert asking such vague questions. Its gonna be a simple 3 step outline to how you get from your AFC style to your new PUA style. 1 - RESEARCH - Simple enough here, your clueless when it comes to style, do's/dont's, and the latest trends? Turn that around. A good method for understanding style a bit better is to pickup magazines and check them out, look online for these magazines (sometimes sites like msn have good love/fashion topics too). They dont have to be girly magazines, things like GQ will offer you plenty of visual aides, but things like vogue and such wont hurt you...you might learn something. Further more, ask girls what they think, prefferably ones who have no reason to humor you. Find out what they like and dont like about your current style, then decide what you keep and what you toss. Its always a good idea to identify with a celebrity whos style you like, and work with it. Also you will quickly learn the basics, things like dont do vertical stripes if your tall, dont wear baggy jeans, what colors match...etc 2 - TRY CLOTHES ON - Go out to a mall or someplace where you will have many clothing options. If you asked a girl for advice previously take her with you to get second opinions. Goto all the clothing stores you think will have clothing in your style. Try the clothes on and keep a mental idea of what it looks like, hell even snap a pic with you wearing it for reference later. Try things on you wouldnt have had the balls to before, things you thought looked cool but you couldnt pull off. Experiment with different looks and items. DO NOT buy a single article of clothing until you have exhausted all your options for where to try things on at. Now what your gonna do, and maybe you have been, is in your mind start to match up articles together (those jeans from x place would go perfect with this shirt from y place and that hat in z place). Come up with "outfits", preplanned combinations of clothing. Try and get things that are unique and different from each other but that you can mix up a little, say a different jacket then you typically wear with x shirt... Now, go online and try and find anything you wanted but couldnt find. Of course the downside here is that you cant try it on, but you should for the most part have an idea of what style/direction you want to go in. 3 - BUY - So youve enlightened yourself on style, youve tried things on and come up with a goof feel for what you wana look like....now its time to go out one last time, try only the stuff on that you want, and purchase it. As always when shopping set a budget for yourself so that you dont end up missing anything. Set a total amount your willing to spend, then subdivide that amount into totals you can spend on a category. Make a list of items that are the biggest priority...say jeans are the thing you need to change the most, and your shirts ar ein need of a little bit of help...well then spend more on jeans and less on shirts. *************************************** Ok so thats the basic outline, does that mean after you do this your done...of course not. For me id say since i started PUA my style has been continiously transforming close to where i wana be. Its a even balance between fincial responsability and also just taste. Ive probably went through about 10 shifts in style to were im at now, and they were very gradual. Also keep in mind that ONE predominate style or theme is what you wana have, but you also want to subdivide that into casual wear, daytime/realxed evening, club/bar getup. Why? You dont want to go out for coffee looking like a gangster, or a pimp or whatever. Club apparell is something you should wear to the club and maybe a few other places...remember your level of "peacocking" should match the venue, as well as your person flavor, same goes for your dress. For instance i dont wear that fedora if im gonna grocery shop or chill at a friends one night doing nothing. So thats pretty much it, follow these guidelines to become more fashion savy and keep in mind that over time your tastes may change. |
