| Post subject: | Deodorant slash Cologne |
Okay, so here is the thing. I know this problem has been addressed many different places and many different ways - however, I still have not been able to come up with a reasonable solution. Because I am me, and not the people smelling me...I don't really smell me. Get it? However, I can smell my deodorant sometimes....like sitting in a movie theater, or when I am sweating, or when I am just walking around. So because I smell my deodorant and not my cologne, I have begun to think that other people smell my deodorant more than my cologne as well. The cologne isn't weak, it is actually quite strong - I love it. But I want to make sure others love it as well; and that the deodorant isn't mashing the scent. My problem/question is what do the rest of you cologne wearers do? Some people try and get a deodorant that works with their cologne - for me, there is no such thing. I have also tried getting the unscented, but then I end up smelling like unscented sweat...which I cant even describe So who has recommendations? I've tried Sure Unscented, Sure Powder and Sure Fresh, Right Guard Fresh Spray, Right Guard Spray Unscented, Adidas Sport, Speed Stick, and Arm n Hammer. none of them seem to work for me. I either: don't like the smell of the deodorant, it doesn't work well with my cologne, it doesn't work as an antiperspirant, doesn't work as a deodorant, or when it IS WORKING - doesn't smell good (overpowering). So what is next? Anyone have ideas for antipersperant/deodorants that work well, don't stink, and don't clash with your cologne? And yea, it could just be that since the air exhaust goes up from ones armpits to the collar of the shirt, I am smelling that and not the cologne; but I am unsure and don't really want to find out. |

Look into getting the cologne sets at the department stores that include a matching deodorant stick with your cologne. Personally I like the Polo Black with matching deodorant. It will run you about $75.00, but hey problem solved. |

First I don't use a deodorant and didn't use a cologne for a long time. This was because I didn't need one, being a strict vegan. For example I was told frequently that I smelled "planty" and "sweet" but when I asked what kind of plant they said "I dont know, but it's a good smell" But I digress, my luck with biochemistry aside.... I would say go to a a department store and ask to smell some different types, then go to sephora's website and check the scent styles (great resource by the by). After that go to either perfectperfume or fragrancenet and get some of the kinds you like in sample vials. Then you can test and see how your natural smell mixes with the cologne, as well as style's cologne opener (both good) save the good ones and buy real bottles. I would also say, GO RARE!!!!! Avoid anything CK or Armani, etc. Being PUA is about doing the things no one else does. Cologne is just another form of peacocking. For me, I like: Dolce and Gabbana pour homme (doesn't even smell like cologne) Jean Paul Gaultier "LE MALE" Summer Chrome by Azzaro Envy by Gucci Paul Smith Vintage Some are more expensive, since they don't all have vials, but they are usually like 1-2 bucks each so you can use trial and error. |

my only problem with that is that none of them are anti-perspirants - they only make the deodarant form.

I do agree that "we"....well, anyone for that matter (but there are not enough colognes in the world to do that) should go with their own style of cologne. I'll check out some of those sites. Thanks man! (oh, btw...I am actually training (in/for)/ learning parkour. |

I too wear both, deoderant and colgne...i think the general idea is to get a colgne that has a strong but not overwhelming smell and a deoderant that is subtle, and less powerful then the colgne. Also keep in mind that the way our sense of smell works is to only work in bursts, our smell becomes dead to things after only a few mins of continued exposure. So unless your sticking your head in your pits you will only ocasionally get wifs of your deoderant and not smell your colgne a few mins after you put it on. The biggest mistake guys make with colgne is to put on too much (because they cant smell it). Just think about how many dudes you walk by that smell like Bed, Bath, and Beyond...common i know im not the only person that hates that store. Some dudes put so much on i walk by them and feel like Chris Tucker in rush hour..."which one of ya'll kicked me!" If you really wana get a feel for your smell us it as an opener btw i use Gillet clear cool breeze or wave or some crap, and i use Victoria secrets colgne, and sometimes a sporty old spice thingy...generally i wear whatever colgne people buy me, as long as it smells better then my funk and its free lol. Once i have better finaces i may splurge and shop for better colgnes. |

everyone is different. Ive got three more scenarios lined up to try. But I am for sure going to test out new colognes. the smell does deaden however it also creates sense memory and you will be associated with that smell. thats why I don't like Axe...because people cant connect individuals to that smell. Smell as an opener half works for me. Its a little tough though because unless you go by the innocent "hey, ive got these colognes and I can't pick" then you will seem skeevy by being like "hey, smell me" lol |

Yea Axe is garbage, to me its a highschooler or middle schoolers scent... Ive also heard alot of girls say they dont like it or view it as immature too. You can variate on the cologne opener, tailor it to match the scenario. I agree walking up and being like smell me would be odd. You know maybe literally turn it into a game, walk around with pen and papaer and take votes. "Hey girls im doing a test, i need female opinions but i cant stay long...gotta meet up with my girl and shop for colgne..." "Heres what i need you guys to do, smell the colgne im wearing and tell me if you know what brand it is, also let me know if you like it or dont like it." Also for banter, if youd like and they ask or you think it might go over well...add that the prize for guessing right is they get to shop with you. Then you can grab em and tell the others you gotta get colgne with your girl now... Idk i just came up with the above, but if you really wana know how your colgne is working asking around is the best bet, might as well use it as an excuse to open sets. |

Yeah I agree with the less is more concept, when I am out I only ever really put any on my wrist/forearm. I usually don't have girls near my neck or pits, but I do have them near my hands and when you gesture they get wafts. Also WTF? Is everybody and their g-ma doing parkour now? Thats been schitck for a couple of years now and people (who suck at it, and get us in trouble for trespassing) are ruining it. Any way best of luck. I would suggest learning precisions and underbars first, they always look cool, especially if done from a high place. A narrow jump that you could walk to looks killer, but some of the vault stuff that is more difficult looks like shit sometimes. And make sure you just have fun. Girls open me all the time when I'm out (oh yeah don't go alone). A Buddy of mine broke his foot and had to walk to the hospital, not fun. |

Ive been doing tumbling for about a year in preparation for it....its been a goal for a long time - but I always smoked and was too busy sitting in diners rather than going out. I've since changed, and am now ready. It is a sport about freedom of your body and spirit - to be a human and do what you want, and go where you want. It is a "sport" (more a practice in my eyes) that sums me up quite well. I do agree that when rare things get trendy....it sucks; but hey, it is the personality that compliments the activity. Just because you can jump around, doesn't make you interesting. |

Try old spice sport. Its blue but goes on clear. I like it alot because when im active it keeps me the driest. Excpet when im lifting, at that point im a sweating mess, but it has always worked for me. Smells good but will not really over power your cologne. |
