Post subject:  Razor Burn!!!

Hey guys i have struggled with razor burn ever since i started shaving. I did teach myself to shave but i believe im doin it the correct way. I hav tryed many different ways to deal wit the razor burn, some help, some dont, but so far none have fixed the problem.

Feel free to leave your tips and tricks for dealing with it. Hopefully some1 will have a fix to the problem but i think i have tryed everything under the sun besides prescription medicine (if there is any).

Thx ahead of time. 8)

Shave with the grain going down on your face. I use Gel for Sensitive Skin that seems to help a whole lot. Some people also mix Gel and Foam for a better feel on their face. In addition make sure you're using a quality razor. Most "experts" recommend changing the razor blade every 3-4 good shaves.

Also, I noticed when I don't shave often I tend to get razor burn, as oppose to shaving every day. When in doubt talk to a dermatologist. :)

See, when I shave every day, I look like I got hit with birdshot. Sometimes, I let my beard grow for 4-5 days then take a brand new blade to it. Feels good! I use a new razor every 3 shaves, it works for me, but I will admit it gets a bit pricy, on the other hand, it's worth it.

Hmm maybe my consistently is the problem. See after i shave ill see a few bumps but it wont itch. After about 24-48 hours it will start to get badly irritated. So my thoughts on shaving everyday is it wont get irritated but ill be making the razor burn worse.

Well honestly the only thing i havnt tryed is shaving everyday so ill call this day One. Ill try it for a while are until my neck is bleeding with bumps...eww.

If anyone else knows of anything like different aftershaves are lotions (i use Nivea) feel free to post them. Thx for the ideas so far guys. 8)

Used to have the same problem, nasty razor burn on below the jaw line whenever I shaved consecutive days. I eventually just had to suck it up and shave every day. Eventually went away, not sure after how long though.

Now I use electric. If you go that route, don't go cheap though, expect to spend 75-125 for a good electric razor. Takes a couple weeks for your face to adjust to it, but I find that I get as smooth a shave as using a blade.

Shaving everyday is the best thing to do, but the best combo my buddies and I came up with is a think layer of Neutrogena skin clearing shave cream on first for a base and then a thicker layer of Gillette Fusion Hydra Gel right on top of that- then shave with a Gillette Fusion blade. I change the blade about every two weeks or so. Also once or twice a week I'll shave against the grain , only after shaving with the grain first and reapplying some shave cream.

We actually put a lot of work into this- we went and talked with this gay guy at the mall who worked at this shaving store- got some good tips!

A girl got me some amazing stuff for xmas a couple years ago. No razor burn what-so-ever and normally my face is on fire when I use a razor, which is why I switched to just using a beard trimmer.

I agree with the reviews that you do need to use a fair bit considering it doesn't expand like gels or foams do, but it is SO worth it. Also, like they say, make sure to rinse the blades well, because the oils clog after every stroke. I don't shave my face anymore, but when I shave my tender bits, damn straight this is what I use.
