I dunno if this would be relevant to style, but when making cartoon characters its best to stick with a limited palette (amount of colors). Like three or four basic colors that are repeated throught the character, including the clothes. Visually this gives a much more cohesive look to something which results in a more apppealing character. A good example of a repeating color would be say you have brown eyes, so you wear brown shoes, or brown pants. Also colors that contrast are visualy striking. Here are the contrasting colors, if combined create the most impact together.
Blue and Orange
Red and Green
Yellow and Purple
Black and White
Black and White with a single color is also a really cool color theme.
Personally I like to wear colors that accent my eyes. I have hazel eyes so today I'm wearing an interesting outfit, well at least to me.
Since I'm at work, I'm wearing Green, khahki and black Merrel shoes, Khaki dockers tan brown, An olive green sweater, with a Red Polo collared undershirt. The red collar of the undershirt is visible over the green sweater for nice visual contrast. I dunno if that's great fashion but its a coherent whole in art terms. The shoes match with green shirts and most khaki pants. There is some contrasting colors for some visual interest, and it accents my eyes, and none of the clothes are baggy or too tight.
