Phones...To the master pick up artist, it is his pokedex of potential lays, but to the rAFC or AFC, it may be a large obstacle. I recently got into pick up, and one thing I immediately noticed about most people is when a conversation drops off, they will "salvage" the potential awkwardness by reaching into their pockets for their phone and aimlessly scrolling through it. Once I noticed other people doing this, I realized just how much I was doing it and how it would hinder my social development. As a student of pick-up motivated to becoming the best person I can be, I emphatically say that I'm done with that. I've decided from this point forward to barrel through the awkwardness until I reach a point where I no longer feel uneasy during a drop in conversation. Eventually, I hope to be able to successfully continue the conversation at such a break point. If you find yourself doing this, I encourage you to imagine that you don't even have a phone in your pocket when you talk to people. Fidgeting with your phone is equivalent to conveying poor body language and makes you look unconfident and, thus, beta. A small step like this could go a long way in your social growth. Pita out. |

LOL I'm glad you noticed this. Cell phones are definitely the "adult social pacifier." When someone gets stuck in an awkward social situation, they reach for their phone pretending to check something. Leave your phone in the car when you go out. |

What did people do way back when to get out of awkward social situations? I'm sure they had their own tricks that would be the equivalent of fidgeting with their phones. |

They would stare at their shoes or readjust their clothes lol everyone has their own "nervous ticks" when they are in an awkward social situation. Looking at their phone is just what they think seems to be more "acceptable" even though it makes them look dumber because it becomes such a habit, it is much more difficult to notice and be able to adjust after the fact.I used to always reach behind my head and massage/scratch my neck whenever I was in an awkward situation. It took me about 3 weeks to stop by consciously telling myself NOT to do it. |

The key I think to this is memorizing key questions to ask the girl when the conversation dries up. I have about 8-10 questions I ask almost every girl. This seems to work well for me. A couple examples are, "Are you an adventurous person?" "Do you like to travel?" You can qualify these questions by providing a reason for asking them. |
