The Trench CoatThis versatile jacket works with everything from denim to a suit. Learn how to best wear it

Today's trench is streamlined, stops just above the knee, and works with everything from dark denim to a suit. "Wearability, packability, and durability are just as important as the look," says Durand Guion, vice president and men's fashion director at Macy's. The lightweight Allegri trench coat folds down to the size of a small paperback book.

Is this an advert or a tip? Is there supposed to be a picture with it?

Trench coats undoubtedly look great, but the only problem I have with them is that they are quite overdone. Quite a lot of even semi-stylish people will have one.

To help you stand out, firstly make sure the coat suits your trousers. A black trench coat with light blue jeans doesn't look great.

If you really want to stand out, get a camel trench coat; collar flipped up, belt tucked into pockets with front unbuttoned. Cool. Period.

Make sure to not ever wear a standard "non fashionable" trench lol. I see guys come in clubs with them and everyone looks at them all creeped out like they are gonna come back with an orange wig on or something.

They have gotten a bad rap as of late it seems. I advise my students not to wear them as a rule unless they are a taller guy, and the trench is highly fashionable. Leather seems really really out also, in coats in general as of 2013 trends I see.
