| Post subject: | Need tips for improving my face/skin |
Here's my problem: My face is pale, sometimes red, and shiny/ oily. And I have slight acne. Okay, I've never worn makeup except for moisturizer and acne cream. The moisturizer makes my skin look even more oily and shiny, but it's necessary because of the facewash I use. My questions are: What can I do to make my skin look less pale, less shiny, and without making me breakout? Should I use makeup? If so, what kind? (I have no knowledge of makeup whatsoever) Should I go to a tanning salon? (If so, any recommendations?) Or should I use some fake tanning products? (but that won't turn me orange!) Thanks in advance for all quality responses! -Z Dubya |

Seriously, I had to consult a Dermatologist. That's what I'd recommend that way you get the right answer. |

I went to a dermatologist when I was younger, and didn't have a good experience. He just looked at my face and wrote me a few prescriptions that were expensive and made my skin worse. What did he do for you?

Click on the "Acne" thread, I addressed this in great detail just now. But in your case goto a dermatologist, find one that is covered in your insurance; then make sure you get a generic type of SPAM. The cost is MUCH less but just as good. As far as pale skin.. What is your ancestry? If your body can take it, head to a tanning booth. I loved tanning, but my skin is too fair and would freckle so I stopped immediately. Stop whatever acne cream you're using, TODAY. And go buy a cleanser called "Cetaphil". It is very gentle so it won't dry your skin, it does a great job overall. |

That didn't answer my question. My problem is not acne. My problem is the paleness and shininess of my skin. I'm nervous about going to a regular tanning salon because I freckle easily, and skin cancer runs in the family. Has anyone tried one of those spray-on tanning booths? |

to solve your paleness problem, the spray-on tans (Mystic Tan, etc.) or the creams with bronzer in them is a fast, easy, and cancer-free way to get tanner. As far as shininess goes, skin becomes shiny due to a buildup of oil. I suggest Clean & Clear Oil Absorbing Sheets. They're small blue pieces of material that when patted on your face it removes excess oil. I got mine from CVS Pharmacy. |

I too, am pale as hell. I do not tan, only burn (and freckle), which is really annoying. What I have discovered is that the best product for this is Olay Body Lotion: Touch of Sun. It is a sunless tanner/lotion that does not turn you orange. They have different ones for people with different skin tones; don't buy the ones for people with medium/dark skin tones, that will make you orange. Stick with the one that is for light tones, it will look natural. It works wonders for me, and while it does make your skin appear oily, you can easily fix this - Wait for it to dry and then rub your face gently with warm water and some soap. The selfless tanner doesn't disappear unless you scrub really fucking hard, which is good, because you don't have to re-apply a lot after every shower. It looks real, and has easily boosted my attractiveness by a few points. It does have a sort of feminine scent, but you can also use some water to get rid of it- just make sure you let it dry first, or it will wash off. It is inexpensive and you can find it in many stores such as Target or King Soopers. Hope it works as well for you as it does for me! |

how's your diet? Provided that you wash and maybe moisturise regularly (2-3 times a day), there's no reason for you to have acne, UNLESS your diet is bad, at the risk of sounding like your mum or something, eat your vegetables |

Make sure any moisturizer you use is non comedigenic (spelling is likely wrong) wrong type of moisturizer will give you acne and oil. Other than that I had awful complexion until i used acutain and now it's real good. I believe it's harder to get now though. |

Acutain is a little severe. I was on it a year ago and it worked but, if you only have minor acne then just wash and moisturizer your face. As for the color, the rub ons are the best. Spray tan is great but can be expensive. You said you burn? Is that due to lack of sun or you've just always been that way. Because by starting at a low time in a tanning bed and continually going there you can get the tan you want. |

I have no acne, but I still have some old scars from when I was younger. Any ideas on that? It doesn't hold me back at all, but I'd still like to get rid of them. |

Are those oil absorbing sheets dry?... as in could you carry a few around in your wallet if need be?
