| Post subject: | Mental and Emotional Disorders Thread |
I just recently discovered through several tests, and realistic self reflection that I may suffer from Bipolar Disorder II. I'll talk with my psychologist over the phone for free consultation. But I am confident due to a family history of mental illness that I suffer from a mental illness. My grandma went to a mental hospital for breaking down. My is extremely anti-social and can at times have grandiose visions. My little sister and niece both show signs of being bipolar as well. I am pretty sure I am bipolar. I think there should be a thread for dudes who SERIOUSLY suffer from some sort of mental disorder. For some guys it might not be that MM is not working, or shitty inner game. But it may be an actual disorder holding them back. I would love to see a controlled thread section on mental disorders. |

Quote: This is not the forum to seek out psychological advice.
That isn't particularly helpful advice there mate. I am also Bi Polar In fact I found this thread by searching for the same answer to Gaius question. There is a very fine line in what is psychological advice and just general social advice and I think that he has a legitimate question. Im pretty sure a lion share of the users of this forum have had a mental health disorder at some point in their life and may suffer from social anxiety. Its very easy to just fob someone of and say see a professional but it isn't a Psychiatrists job to help you with your game. I keep seeing threads like this on PUA forums being shut down saying get processional help but that isn't a magic wand. I doubt the people posting these are morons and probably already are getting "professional help" but that is only one part of the solution which needs to be supplemented by maintaining relationships and an active social life. What do they do in the mean time Become a monk and wait to be cured? Incidentally the nature of Bi Polar disorder and many other mood disorders is they are permanent fixtures of your life that aren't "cured" you learn to live with and manage. I hear several PUA's say sort your own happiness out before you start thinking about gaming but for many people that is not an option. It becomes a chicken an egg scenario. If you are living with Bi polar or other hyperactive mood disorders you can be frequently up and down and it can be a real hassle to maintaining inner game. and I for one would actually like to hear some useful advice on how people cope with this. Instead of a cliche answer from someone who clearly has no Idea |

Unfortunately we are not equipped to be able to take on subject matter not only as complex as holistic mental health but advise given by people who are not appropriately trained and education on each individual area of mental health can be not only damaging but also could have dire consequences. I for one hold a degree in a specific area of psychology but am totally ill equipped to deal with or give advise to someone who suffers from schizophrenia nor am I trained to be able to identify a schizophrenic from someone posting with questions in regards to the seasonal effective disorder they also suffer from however given the nature of the disorder they can and will impact each other depending on the situation. We are more than glad to take any mental health concern into account when dealing with inner game and outer game and will help with each concern on a case to case basis, unfortunately each persons insight and education on the subject matter regarding the disorder they may have doesn't allow us the vast resources that would be required to say as a forum "we're here to help you with your mental health." for example, you Racefortheprize are probably pretty well versed in the type of bipolar you personally deal with but probably not the other forums (there are five different forms of bipolar) and if you are well versed enough to deal with bipolar I, II, mixed bipolar, rapid-cycling bipolar and cyclothymic disorder I'd be willing to bet you aren't versed in something like psychopathy or Pica. It's a fantastic thought and would be amazing if we had people constantly active on the forum with a wide range of doctoral level degrees to take on such a task, however for now it's best we leave it to the professionals and do our best to only give advice on the areas of mental health at are strictly impacting one's romantic ventures at that time. I.E. if you suffer form Pica, no matter what, don't eat glass or dirt on a day two... Cheers Vit-J |
