Hey, has anyone got any suggestions on how I could stop drinking completely. I live in Ireland and it's all anyone does here for fun. I am getting sick of it though and would like to stop drinking completely, but at the same time I need to socialise obviously. How can I turn this around. Most people I hang around with wouldn't be in to doing touristy things, or other fun things that don't involve drink like go kartin, paint balling whatever whatever. They would rather go drinking cos everyone else is! It's a horrible situation for me to be in and stupid society here sometimes! |

Quote: "Hey, has anyone got any suggestions on how I could stop drinking completely. I live in Ireland" That one made lol so hard ahah! But seriously, the idea of drinking to be socially accepted is a misconception. Think about for a sec here... You start with a beer, you grab the second because you're still thirsty, the third one comes from your mate, the fourth you grab is so you can go speak to that HB, and the fifth and sixth are to forget you fucked up already. Or something like that Now, I can't tell you to go on and grab as many drinks with your friends as you can, but I'm not going to tell you to leave altogether. The healthy medium point of drinking is for you to find out... mine is about 2 beers per night. There are exceptions, of course Cheers[/quote] |

Thanks for the reply. I find it hard to "just have the 1 or 2" or whatever. I have an addictive personality. I don't drink to be socially accepted I do it cos people don't do anything else!! Also not fun to be around people who are drunk if I'm sober. I guess I'll have to try find some new people to go do stuff with me. |

I have been completely sober for 74 days now.... I go out every weekend and still do pick up. It tends to be harder because u dont have liquid courage but u are more sharp on your game.... best way to stop is to find some other things that you enjoy doing with your time like I started boxing/lifting... make goals. but what that does is gets u out of habit of drinking. it takes 21 days to build a habit so anytime u wanna drink find something else better to do wit time...its hard but think about long term rewards and its worth it |

Yeah see I have alot of good habits as it is, I exercise alot frequently, I love cooking, I play the guitar, piano, tin whistle, I draw, I go to movies with friends. I guess I'll just have to drink non alcoholic beer and not even tell anyone, that way they will think I'm drunk |

Pretend you're on some sort of antibiotics SPAM. Non-alcoholic beer is shit and tastes like babyfood. Make up something that relieves you of the social pressure, then drink the stuff YOU want. Once you get over the approach anxiety when sober your game increases tenfold. |

Your first priority seems to be denying alcoholism, rather than controlling your habits. See if you CAN go two consecutive weekends without drinking. This does not mean saying "Yeah, I'm sure I could have went without a drink today" with a bottle in your hand; you have to actually experience it to know. If you're not able to do that, don't beat yourself up. Just acknowledge your weakness and address it frankly. |

it will be difficult, but if you have the willpower, you could do it. but do not try to do it only on your own, I suggest to consult a specialist. good luck! |

If you're drinking every weekend it's hard to stop from doing that to no drinking at all. I would suggest in the begin you will only drink once in a month. This way you stay 3 weeks sober and get to drink for 1 week, this way you have something to look forward to and it might keep you motivated more then not drinking at all You can also change this to once in 2 months or something if this works well for you |

I go out every day (student in Holland) but I never drink anything before I go out (except wine sometimes). I am quite large so it takes time for me to get drunk. I start at about 0.00 am and have about 6-8 small beers until 3.00 am. It improves my game a little, but I have never met a girl who didn't like me sober as well. I especially like to go out with some of my female friends because they don't drink fast and they move around the bar as well. My mates just want to drink in a corner. If you pick the right people to go out, it makes things a lot easier. Mostly they don't mind me picking up women. They know me and respect me for how I do it. |
