If you've never lifted before, you should build a strong foundation first, otherwise ur setting yourself up for future injury. Try these for starters.
Chest-benchpresses/inclines
Lower back-deadlifts
Upper back-barbell rows/chin ups/reverse grip lat pulldowns
Shoulders-military presses
Legs-Squats
Biceps-barbell/dumbbell curls
Triceps-skullcrushers
Calves-donkey calf/seated calf raises

TECHNIQUE IS KEY with all of the above movements. Master proper technique first. Pyramid up in weight with your sets. DO YOUR OWN RESEARCH to learn what u gotta do to reach your specific goals. And again, i cannot stress this enough, MASTER PROPER FORM!!!!!!

Great post, those are some solid exercises for beginners.

if anything, i'd add...
hammer curls for biceps,
reverse grip (or even close grip) bench for triceps, and
leg extention or lunges for legs.

Or... I'd suggest joining an MMA gym. Get a good body while developing functional strength, learning how to defend yourself, AND pick up a new hobby at the same time.

Well said, I hate seeing new gym goers hurting themselves because they try to compete, left too much and end up having to take time off.
