Post subject:  Getting in better shape

I decided I need to workout more. Why? Well, I like feeling good about myself. I also sleep better when I exercise and it keeps me mentally and physically stable. So what does a guy like me do for a workout? Weights, kickboxing, running, yoga, and whatever else I have the equipment for.

I have always been a little sporty but have never been a top athlete. I was on the team, but I never really excelled. Recently, I tried Body for Life, which almost required 6 days a week in the gym. I got burned out on this program. Then I switched to Scrawny to Brawny, which I am still reading about. During this period of about 2-3 years, I gained weight from about 135 on up to about 165 and I fluctuate around this weight usually.

I am going to start running again on a routine. Even if I only do a jog around the block, I still enjoy running as a means to get lean. I used to do track in high school. Another thing I like is kickboxing. I have boxing gloves and a Wavemaster bag that you fill with water or sand and it has some "give" to it when you punch/kick it. I also have a yoga mat to practice on. I highly recommend yoga for flexibility/stretching and meditation purposes.

In fact, I read a few sources that say stretching after anaerobic exercise (such as weight lifting) reduces the amount of lactic acid in the muscle tissues, which aids in muscle growth. Speaking of weight lifting, I have a bench and a pair of adjustable dumbbells. Scrawny to Brawny relies heavily on compound exercises such as squats, bench press, and deadlifts.

This sounds like a pretty good amount of exercise I can do by myself. More on this later... Thanks for reading.

Good post, gym should be used by anyone able, not just to look better, but for general health and well being!
