Post subject:  treadmill - speed or incline?

I've recently purchased a treadmill but i'm curious on which is better for losing calories, a higher speed or higher incline?

Also, it tells me how many calories i'm losing on it, how many calories should i loose a day roughly, and should i spread it out throughout the day or do it all in one go?

Thanks.

Speed to build endurance and get better cardio exercise.

Incline for build a bit of leg muscle. They will both burn cals

do both of them burn the exact amount of calories though, or is one better than the other?

Agreed do both, but dont have a set routine, mix it up the body is very good at adapating to what your doing, so randomise it and make it work it's arse off!

Well they burn pretty much the same amount of calories, even though you cannot measure incline vs. speed.

But remember, the actual work-out type that is going to make you lose the most cal.'s is the one YOU find the most "FUN", since it is going to make you give 10-15% more of yourself. (did not know how to put it - i hope you got the messege) :)

yes do both but sprinting burns more calories...and you'll burn more calories if you do circuit training because think about it...the more muscles you use the more energy you use which will burn more calories hope this helps

high interval training look it up basically do two min jog one min run and keep doing that cylce and you loose approx 100 cal for every mile you do. the only difference is in running is that your body burns fat easier for body to convert to power

just to add my 2 cents..always run at an incline of atleast 1 as this simulates normal road conditions as if you were running outside! :-)

Look into interval training or circuit training. Every trainer I have talked with in the last year has recommended it. It involves bring your heart rate up from regular to very high..almost till you can't take it and then coming back down. Doing this in the proper cycles is important. I do cardio in this way for 30 min 3x's a week and it helps keep fat off. This with a lifting program is solid!
