Post subject:  Drinking Diet Soda

I'm working on getting ripped. I am in pretty good shape I just don't have the definition I want. Well anyway I love soda and a while back I switched to diet soda. Any issues with drinking diet soda when trying to get ripped? Good or bad idea? Should I just drink water?

Water is healthier for you - So if you want do it for your own healthy. I do not know if it affect your goal about getting ripped though maybe if your change your work out to acidtraining, where you do lighter weight and more reps to get that acid into your muscle. That is a good way to get ripped fast. But it wont happen in a week or two so dont expect miracles and dont give up!

I found that when it comes to most food and drink, going cold-turkey for a few months will make you forget all about it. (With enough motivation, and it's positive effects in mind that is)

So my advice, don't drink soda.

I second him. I once gave up sodas for lent one year, and once I came back, I don't even like them anymore. I find them way too sweet, and they make my throat hurt.

While it's true that even diet sodas aren't really good for you, it's still a marked improvement versus regular soda with all that sugar. Just dumping those empty sugar-calories helps big time: http://www.energyfiend.com/sugar-in-drinks

Only thing about diet pop is that it often has a lot of sodium and potassium. That, along with the caffeine, can lead to dehydration in certain circumstances. But yeah, I've switched off to Coke Zero and Diet Cheerwine, and haven't touched sugared pop since New Year's.

Diet soda won't harm your fat loss efforts and caffeine can only help you.

I don`t even need to explain, i`ll let this article explain.

"Does Diet Soda Make You Fat, or is it Really Good for Weight Loss?

by Mike Geary, Certified Nutrition Specialist, Certified Personal Trainer

diet drinks make you fatWe all know by now that soda (aka "pop" in some areas) is one of the most evil things you can put in your body... the nasty chemicals, the gut-fattening high fructose corn syrup, and a myriad of health problems caused by this carbonated cocktail worshipped by those that don't care about their health or body.

Since you're one of my subscribers, I know that you actually do care about your health and the appearance of your body.

Surprisingly, many people falsely believe that "diet" soda is in some way a good thing for losing body fat. In fact, I hear people all the time proudly state that they eat so healthy and only drink diet soda.

So let's set the record straight...

There is NOTHING even remotely healthy about drinking diet soda. In fact, I've even seen several studies that showed dedicated diet soda drinkers got even FATTER than their regular soda drinking counterparts.

Here's some findings from an 8-year University of Texas study that I had read...

An excerpt from the study author:

"What didn't surprise us was that total soft drink use was linked to overweight and obesity," Fowler tells WebMD. "What was surprising was when we looked at people only drinking diet soft drinks, their risk of obesity was even higher."

"There was a 41 percent increase in risk of being overweight for every can or bottle of diet soft drink a person consumes each day," Fowler says.

Ok, as if we didn't already know how bad regular soda was for us, and now they're showing us studies that diet soda makes us even fatter than the already bad stuff!

There's a lot of complicating factors as to why this occurs...

One reason is that the artificial sweeteners in diet sodas create a negative hormonal response in the body that increases fat storing hormone production and increases cravings for more sweets and refined carbohydrates in the time period after consuming the diet drink.

Another reason is that people may subconsciously think that because they are drinking a diet soda, that gives them more leeway to eat more of everything else, hence consuming more calories overall.

I've said this all along, but the bottom line is that if you're serious about your health and body, soda of any kind (and artificial sweeteners in anything for that matter!) should be avoided at all times, except for very rare occasions when you can't avoid them.

The best alternatives are good old water with lemon or unsweetened iced teas... you have plenty of options with teas - green, white, black, oolong, red... be creative in making your iced teas and you'll enjoy it more. Plus you'll get a more diverse array of antioxidant"

diet soda has aspartame which is no bueno. My suggestion to you is to stick to smoothies, juices, and water. If youre outside and feel like drinking a soda then dont drink a soda drink a vitamin water or some mineral water etc. then when you replaced your soda habit with mineral water or w/e you move it down and down till you reached H20lightenment lol but yeah stick to water and if anything enhance your water by putting lemon juice in it or sea salt or w/e you want. Just try to avoid anything that wouldnt be considered healthy

Diet Soda is okay in small quantities, the only problem with it is it can cause water retention, thus you won't look as ripped.

I would avoid it, and drink about 2 gallons of water a day. Drink that much and you won't even want to touch soda.

Over the first full of sugar and sweeteners and other right there should be enough to stop drinking very acid that harms your body functions. one of the key elements of soda is phosphoric acid has a pH of 2.5 is strong enough to nail a DESOLVE Americans in four intensive days average 44 liters of soft drinks each year! no wonder we're so fat. hydrated with alkaline water only.

I did notice that if I drink diet soda, as a natural consequence, I want to eat something salty, and then the process starts all over again.

But I've read a lot of stuff on diet soda and most of the evidence they have that it is harmful is in its experimental stages at best. There has been no study that shows a direct link, as in, diet soda makes you fat or in any other way harms you.

I'm seeing correlational research. That's not a direct link. Intelligence and foot size are correlated because as we get older our feet get bigger, doesn't mean you should start stretching your feet out.

They performed research on rats and it was shown that it caused cancer but for a human to consume a comparible amount, they would have to cosume pounds and pounds of it every day. Not even humanly possible unless you were determined to give yourself cancer by consuming artificial sweetener.
