So, I went to a nutritionist so she could help with my diet. I'm skinny everywhere except for my belly. She said my diet has too much protein and that she'll change it to a hypo caloric diet for on month so I'll lose my belly. And then after that change again so I gain muscle. Note that I'm bellow my ideal weight and I'm afraid I'll lose muscle with the new diet with even less protein. What do you think? Should I trust her and follow this? Most guys that are big that I know say these diets from nutritionists never really work. They're made for keeping you skinny and healthy but not for lifting heavy weights. I've been working out for 6 months. Ideas? Thanks |

It's easier to lose weight when you have more muscle. Sure, you could just eat a lot less, and in a month you'll be skinny very easily. Your only hardship would be feeling hungry but you 'll get used to it. Or, you could start working out and slowly lose the belly. You won't lose it as well as with the first option, but perhaps it would become less of an issue with your larger frame and more muscles visually balancing it out. |

You wont necessarily lose muscle, you could be consuming too much protein for your weight especially if your skinny. People think that building muscle is all about protein, of course that's right, but too much is no good. |

If you've been working out for 6 months why are you skinny? Even the worst ectomorphs go from skinny vinny to a lean athletic build in six months of proper exercise. Do you have strong abdominal muscles? The pot-belly might be the result of poor abdominal muscles...as a result they can't hold in your stomach nicely. Are you doing weighted abdominal workouts? Anyway...The general idea is bulk first -> cut after. The more muscles you have the higher your metabolism as your muscles need quite a bit of calories just for maintenance. Don't cut your protein, but manage your diet wisely, have a calorie surplus of at least 500...find out how much cals you need to consume a day by using a a harris-benedict calculator online, keep on bulking, adopt a high protein diet, exact in the amount of cals you need (google can help you with this, or PM for some samples) and adopt a proper workout scheme where you record your lifts. Your progression should be linear for a while. When you hit a bump, (think 2 weeks lifting the same amount of weight) reassess your program. If you feel you are getting too fatty during your bulk (you will gain some fat, don't be afraid of it) then it's time to adjust your diet to a hypocaloric diet which STILL has enough protein for your muscles to be maintained and add cardio to your workouts. the fat will be gone in a minimal amount of time due to your added muscle mass and you will be happy you did this instead of going backwards in all the progress you made. |

You WILL lose the belly if you follow these rules. No Cheating! 1. No carbs after 8pm 2. 6 small meals a day *America is one of the most obese countries for a reason 3. Exercise regularly shoot for 3-5 days a week 4. Cut out sugars (no soda, candy) Its all about how determined you are. |
