Say im keeping my calorie intake to a minimum of 1200 which keeps my body from going into starvation mode, if i excercise surely my body will then need to consume calories to stop my body going into starvation mode making it pointless unless of corse i want to eat more? just a thought. EDIT: what is the storage fat - food ratio when in normal resting metabolic state and when excercising? do you burn more fat off your body in comparison to food when excercising? |

Holy shit dude where have you been gettin advice from?just a thought. EDIT: what is the storage fat - food ratio when in normal resting metabolic state and when excercising? do you burn more fat off your body in comparison to food when excercising? heres just about all you need http://www.freedieting.com/tools/calorie_calculator.htm I have a better way of calculating you daily caloric requirements you count evey calorie (a total daily amount will suffice) you take in for a period of time (usually for 5-14 days) without gaining our losing a single pound ie. you start a 200 pounds you fininsh at 200 pounds, than you divide that total number by the amount of days at vollah! your majic number now subtract 500 from that number eat that many calories a day and your on your way. |

See my post under "what's the most efficient way to lose fat?". No quick fix I'm afraid and once a week is wishful thinking BS. |

Man, seriously! Of course you are gonna burn more fat if you are exercising. Starving yourself is not gonna help at all. Just gonna make things worse. I will adress this as a real question even though Im not sure it is. You may not lose weight since muscle weigh more than fat and you tend to build muscles. On the other hand, you will burn fat. Fat is the bodys energy storage and thats where excess energy goes and thats where energy is taken from when required. If you increase your activity you will use more energy from your fat deposits. You may think that if you starve yourself then your body will use more fat since your overall energy level goes down. Yes, sure it is like that but at the same time your body will go into starvation mode. So when you finally eat something, your body stores it as precisous gold in your fat deposits. Not good I might add. So skip the diet thing (ok, sure it is good to eat healthy and avoid fast food) and increase your energy consumption instead, its gonna do more for your figure than what you get now. Plus, you do not really have to have a superintense training program, normally it is just enough to change your habits. bodyweight is like regulated by a mechanism that can be compared to a scales, you just need to tip the balance towards burning energy and it will change. Take the stairs and not the lift, walk dont drive etc. You get the point. |

the whole point is im not starving myself, im keeping it as low as possible. been a while since i put up this post and it gave me a while to research it and yeah it will end up burning more, say i eat 1200 a day, if i excercise it will increase my overall motabalism allowing me to eat more but also burn more fat. so normally i would burn 2200 calories (BMR) and 40% of this would be fat burned = 880 cals but if i excercise say i burn 200 calories more in that day because of an increase in motablism then 40% of that should also be taken off fat stores. yeah thinking back to this post its more of a logical mistake than anything else because youll always burn a % of fat along with food. |

yeah thinking back to this post its more of a logical mistake than anything else because youll always burn a % of fat along with food. Your body will adjust and your metabolism will slow. The body will adapt to situations. Now its true you can starve to death however the body will make adjustments in a attempt to insure that wont happen. You can use SPAM strips http://www.carbs-information.com/SPAM-test-strips.htm btw if its blue congratulations your gonna be a new mommy. (joke) |

... why do people think this is starving yourself.. its realy not you can burn 40% storage fat normally so that means im getting the right amount of calories per day. my motablism is no way near slowing down i feel just as energetic and my cognitive functions are normal, plus im excercising on a regular basis. |

these people really don't know what they are talking about. you're going right on your restricted caloric intake plan there. you're going to want to do 45min/jogging or other aerobic activity 5 days a week. buy a REPS! magazine and follow whatever six-pack abs guide they have there and it always includes a diet plan. personally i would recommend going to a vegan diet but that's a big change better to just restrict your calories first. also make sure that you eat three grapefruits a day, and drink 2 brews of green tea a day. these two have special chemicals that naturally burn fat for you. you can do the research yourself if you like, but it's true. |

No, don't trust what you read in the magazines, they are rammed full of BS and are only interested in one thing - selling their sponsors' products. One big advertising con. As for restricting calories even remotely drastically, you will lose muscle, which is fine if you are a big build to start with, if not, you will probably start to look pretty emaciated before you get near your abs. Better to drink plenty of water, eat 5-6 times a day of really good clean foods and hit the cardio and importantly, the weights (to maintain / build the muscle needed to get lean and look good). And get some expert guidance - it's really hard to go it alone. For one thing, the changes are so slow, you will lose patience on your own. |

What the ????????buy a REPS! magazine and follow whatever six-pack abs guide they have there and it always includes a diet plan. personally i would recommend going to a vegan diet but that's a big change better to just restrict your calories first. also make sure that you eat three grapefruits a day, and drink 2 brews of green tea a day. these two have special chemicals that naturally burn fat for you. you can do the research yourself if you like, but it's true. Give me the scientific background for your statements. Especially the 2 special chemicals thet naturally burn fat. 3 Grapefruits a day? And read the magazines???? Sorry man but telling me that I dont know what Im talking about when it comes to this subject... you piss me off. Plus you didnt actually come up with anything. So prove me wrong, or yourself right. |

http://scoobysworkshop.com/ got some great tips there and they're making things easier for me. A totally free site as well. I've been pumping at the gym all winter and now I'm starting my running period, since I don't have to deal with all the snow and shit. Losing fat is all about running more than you eat, really. ...And not eating a lot of junk. Everytime I want to eat or drink something that's bad for me (excluding alcohol *cough*) I think "How happy will this piece of candy make me in the long run?" and skipping the dessert is helluva lot easier. |

There's a lot of really good stuff on the link, but I don't like the way it stipulates a 'one size fits all'. It's not like that. I have been on the number of calories the site recommends for my weight and have lost far more than 1 lb per week, and plenty of muscle to boot! Even losing as little as 1 lb a week drug-free will result in muscle loss. And I have spent the last 7 months building muscle and burning fat at the same time (gone from 22% BF to 15% BF amounting to 15 lbs loss in fat and gained in muscle). I am unrecognisable from last August. Yet the site says you can only build 5 lbs a year - a beginner who is working hard and eating properly and consistently will do much better, I am living proof! |

your not helping me prove my point lol. stuff in magazines are very inaccurate and usualy made to sell products. normal aerobic excercise so often is unhealthy in the long run. read a book called body by science. a vegan diet wont help me im trying to maintain and build muscle mass at the same time. these natural burning chemicals are b/s marketing nonsence that has been misconstrude.

At the end of the day, whilst it costs money, get yourself a proven PT. It really is the best and quickest way. You can read all you want but there is an unbelievable amount of BS on this topic. Everyone has an opinion even if they've never lifted a weight in their lives! Do the research though and make sure you get one with a proven track record. To be fair, if you wanted to become a concert violinist within 5 years, the first thing you'd do is get a good teacher. I believe fitness is no different. |
