| Post subject: | Breaking out because of Whey Protein?? |
Hello all. So, I'm working out, and I'm taking whey protein as a supplement ( I just don't have time to actually get a good food with about 20g or more of protein) Anyways... about a year ago when I started seeing a dermathologist, she told me I shouldn't take any protein, because my skin was very sensitive and it would make me break out. THe guys at GNC said that only high carb protein is related to acne break outs. So I got a low carb one (THE GNC ONE) ... And I think its making me break out, but really few pimples, and they usually go away fast, or I put a cream my dermathologist gave me for the pimples. And I'm using my moms make up to cover them while they go. I have like 2 on my forehead, but they get covered really good with the make up, and when they're gone, another one is wanting to appear. I don't want to use any over the counter products for this, I'm just really washing my face with soap (Maybe I should buy the one my dermathologist first gave me) ... Has anyone had break outs from whey protein? If so what did you do to get around it? |

Your acne could be a result of several factors. First is the fact that you are working out, this increases the amount that you sweat leading to increased bacterial growth in your pores --> more acne. Additionally, by working out you are also increasing your natural testosterone production. Although the physiology is not well elucidated, increased testosterone levels have been correlated with acne (i.e. in people taking anabolic steroids). SO what is there for you to do: 1. Increased sweating/bacteria counts --> shower as soon as possible after exercising. Showering will reduce the bacterial counts temporarily as well as clean the residue from sweat. 2. Increased testosterone --> You could work out less or you could mix in some aerobic exercise. Aerobic exercize has been shown to reduce testosterone peaks that occur immediately after resistance training. Personally, the showering right after working out worked for me. That's all i needed. I was also able to keep using whey protein powder. Good luck. |

What your doctor told you is complete crap. Doctors are doctors not diaticians. Your protein shake is likely made from dairy which will make you break out. Cut all dairy and grains out of your diet for 2-3 weeks and your spots will disappear. |

Whey Protein does NOT make you break out Milk DOES make you break out My friend is a dermatologist i once asked him if greasy foods make you break out like a teenager and he said no they dont the only product that is backed up by science to make you break out is one of the things that most meat heads drink.....yep MILK! Milk has bacteria and it messes with your hormones which cause you to break out Take your protein shakes with Water instead |

Protein doesnt make you break out. Milk does. If you are using a GNC product, like Wheybolic extreme, it actually has testosterone in it. that could be doing it as well (sorta like how milk has hormones, so does a lot of GNC products, albeit to a lower extent, so they dont have to report it). Edit: If protein made you break out, why doesnt eating eggs, steak, chicken, or fish make you look like a pepperoni pizza? I eat a metric ass ton of beef, chicken, and steak and never have problems. Also, if you have sensitive skin, stay away from sodas. They can make you break out worse than anything else on the market (besides a pure testosterone booster w/o estrogen blocker, which is rare anymore, if at all) |

Yeah actually ive heard whey Isolate "doesnt make you break out" I am yet to test this but I am buying some soon. But as previously mentioned milk has hormones in it which cause acne , this is due to either selective breeding or gmo i think ( cant remeber which one) its beaucse the hormones allow the cow to produce more milk in higher yields. Id avoid milk based protien shakes |

if your looking to gain mass and size and muscle it would be a good idea to continue taking your whey with milk... Not cow milk. Almond milk is very good in vitamins more so then the cow and so is soy.... try these with your protein mix. |
