Post subject:  Tanning

Just wondering if anyone has advice on tanning. You always hear the "sunbeds are bad" line. Anybody use any other products? Or think that it's all a total waste of time?

Should be interesting to find out.

Artificial tanning is no substitute for being outside more, and a great way to start getting cancer. Tanning spas are proven to cause Melanoma (growth of cancerous tumors on the skin specifically).

I would avoid tanning... Just not good for you... Take the money you would have spent tanning and get a new outfit. You will probably see better results.

That's my two cents...

I've been using a product called daily glow facial moisturizer by Jergens. It gives you a VERY slight tan gradually. You can pick it up in most pharmacies. Its a facial moisturizer that you apply daily. It smells nice and does a good job with my skin.

I would guess that based on your skin tone it makes your face about a shade darker. I've had zero streaking and it looks 100% natural. I use the one for fair skin tones. The one for medium skin tones might be better, but I want any tanning effect to look natural and was afraid to try it.

From what I read, L'oreal has a similar product called Sublime Glow which gets you significantly darker, and also appears to be natural. I can't find it anywhere around here though.

There are a number of gradual tan products for your body, but I haven't tried any of them for fear of streaking and difficulty of even application on my back.

I think tanning is fine. I go about 3-4 times a month. It's convenient and keeps my skin looking nice and not pale. 3-4 times is enough so that you don't look like you go to a tanning bed, but you also don't look pale.

As to the above posters discussing cancer risks, it is no more of a cancer risk than spending time outdoors in the sun. And not everyone has the time to do that... it's a huge time sink. Getting a tan does a lot for your looks and is super easy and convenient, so I would recommend it if you don't get enough sun from the outdoors.

This summer, the International Agency for Research on Cancer moved tanning beds and ultraviolet radiation into the highest cancer threat category, along with tobacco, asbestos and arsenic.

Brah, you might want to rethink spending so much time in the tanning salon. The type of light is the same as what you get from the sun, but the intensity is totally different.

Nothing wrong with tanning man. I tanned a lot last year (too much tho lol) and it helped my acne too. It is good in moderation (no more than 3 days a week) but too much and you'll look like an oompa loompa lol.

I'm the same Maverick. I'm usually a REALLY pale guy but started going tanning once a week for a while to gradually build up a nice skin tone. Gave me tons of confidence. I looked better in the gym too, which gave me more confidence to work out better, improve my look etc.

I'd say its all good....but as alot of people have said...don't over do it.

One of the vital things I picked up from researching it before I started was that there is a set number of sessions you are supposed to have within 12 months. I think it was something like 20.

Hope that helps.

Matt

the6800 - Ya right, its like 20 times in 12 months.

I don't think there is anything wrong with tanning either. Best thing is, once you get a nice tanned skin tone, ya find that once a month tanning will make all the difference.

Eh........I've tried tanning and it somewhat works but being a redhead I dont think its such a great idea seeing as I tend to burn to a crisp before I tan =/
