Post subject:  Advice for losing 15-20 Pounds

Hey guys, I need to advice for losing 15-20 pounds safely and maintaining that weight. I am 5'10 and weigh around 180(Shot up from 174 a couple weeks ago). I want to get around 160-165.

I go to the gym around 3 times a week for 2-3 hours running for around 45 minutes and then doing weights as well as crunches. I can't seem to shake off the weight no matter what I do. Also I don't know what I should eat and shouldn't eat. I'm trying to eat as many vegetables as possible while trying to keep low on carbs.

Could you guys help me out and tell me how long it might take to lose 15-20 safely?

I'm in the same boat as you. I dont excercise for quite as long as you do, but i have been trying out this one diet. I go out and buy alot of small fruit, like grapes, or vege's, like baby carrots, and just munch on them constantly. These are VERY low on calories, and keeps your metabolism busy to the point where its burning fat constantly. You will get hungry alot cause of that, but you just gotta bear with it. I've been doing it for only 2 weeks or so but lost 7 lb's already, and an inch from the waste.

And keep sugar intake low, drink black coffee in the morning, and maybe again in the afternoon, and then nothing but water the rest of the day.

I'm no expert though, and im sure there's more you can do than all that. Really, i'd love to know too.

Here it goes.

Doing 1938568 crunches will NOT help you lose anything or gain anything.

Cardio, cardio, cardio. It is what you want and what you should be doing. However without the correct diet you will never achieve what you want.

Also working out in excess of like, 45 mins I believe it is, hinders your gains because your body releases some chemical or whatever.

Morning: Bowl of oats OR 2-3 egg whites. MULTI-VITAMINS AND FISH OIL. ARE A MUST!!
2-3 hours later: 1/3rd can of chili
2-3 hours later: 1/3rd can of tuna + cottage cheese
2-3 hours later: Something light, fruit maybe. Must be low in sugar.
2-3 hours later: Full or half of a chicken breast. NO SKIN NO BONES.
Before bed: Something with cottage cheese. It keeps your body in a metabolic state throughout the night and stops you from going catabolic.

Drink at least a gallon of water daily. Sounds hard... I know. Just buy a gallon jug and drink it throughout the day. I personally drink 3 gallons a day. Water keeps your fat metabolism up and running... in other words water breaks down fat cells making it easier to get rid of them which in turn gets rid of your fat.

You said you go 3x a week so heres a 3 day split for you.

THIS IS BEFORE AND AFTER EVERY WORKOUT SESSION.

5 minute stretch warmup
10 minutes of LIGHT bike/walk/jog/whatever for cardio you prefer
10-15 minutes Moderate-Hard run/bike/row/whatever cardio you prefer
5 minute stretch cooldown

Monday:

Bench press: 3 sets of 10 moderate weight.
Dumbbell rows: 3 sets of 15-20 moderate weight.

Wednesday:

Deadlift: 3 sets of 10 moderate weight
Hanging Leg raises: 5 sets of 12.

Friday:

Squat: 3 sets of 10 moderate weight
Leg curls: 3 sets of 15 moderate weight.

Supplements I CURRENTLY use:

100% Gold Whey Protein.
Animal PAK (If you get this only take ONE pack a day not 2)(Vitamins!)
Animal CUTS (fat burner and water weight reducer)
Fish Oil (grear for your skin, helps complexion and tone)
Flaxseed Oil (pushes everything out pretty much + more omega 3's)
Liver Support (precaution)

Look into Animal products.

I lost 15 pound last summer unintentionally. I biked for 1-2 hours 5-6 days a week, lifted weights 6 days a week, and had very little junk food. I ate normal home cooked meals every day too.

Building muscle is the most effective way to raise your base metabolism, and burn hordes of calories. Cardio, is not the answer, and has the opposite effect on your metabolism.

Eat less and exercise more. Simple. Heres a routine: run a mile a day (very doable), and minus 500 calories from your diet a day. Results are amazing.

Are you kidding me? Cardio might not be as effective as strength training (for losing fat), but it definitely does not slow your metabolism. If you think it has the opposite effect, why do runners have almost no fat whatsoever?

Get some real fat burner like eca or clen, then eat often in small portions, real food with protein etc., not garbage. You will be losing 1 pound of fat a week or so. Keep your exercise so your muscles stay.

It's pretty much impossible not to lose fat this way. If you do it right, you will never feel hungry or weak or have any of the usual dieting side effects.

When I got in the game I sought to change my body as well as my social life. I'm about 6-1 & weighted 185. Not out of shape really but I wanted a body that when I took my shirt off would be an asset. My 1st goal was 170, & once I hit it I still wasn't happy. I now weigh between 155-160 at any time I weigh now & got there basically in 2-3 months & have maintained it well. I got abs for the first time in my life & am in the greatest shape I have ever been & in the heathy range for my height.

How I did it was basically buy everything "diet" or "light", & learn to like it. I eat a lot of veggie burgers & stuff & normally feel pretty full. I count calories & was eating about 1000-1200 calories as day when I was losing, & now I eat about 1500 during the week,. I eat what I want on the weekends though & normally go a little crazy. Plus drink about a 12 pack a week. Seems to work for me.

Well first of all, suplements to loose weight rarely work. In fact, they never do. :>
That might slightly help your already existing diet/workout plan, but supplements alone won't cut it. Ever. Not matter what the commercial says. Before reading any further, realise that 1. this is my own opinion on alot of things and 2. some things may have already been said by other people.

If you don't mind keeping track of calorie intake/loss each day, then keep in mind that if your calory loss is 500 higher than your intake each day, after a week you will have lost around 0,5 kg (aprox. 1 pound?).
I for one don't like keeping track of every little thing I eat though simply because it's too much of a hassle.

Here is what I do to lose weight whenever I need to.

1. If you know it's bad for you, don't buy it. It's very easy, if it's not in your fridge, you won't eat it.

2. No soda. Diet coke is actually worse for your health than normal coke btw. Some might disagree, that's up to them. Just drink water, or tea (without sugar and milk). And no, chemical sweeteners aren't allowed either. Fruitjuice is good, as long as it's homemade.

3. Try to get enough sleep. For example I am writing this at 3:00 a.m. (Edit: finally done at 3:35..) which is plain stupid considering I was planning on going to the gym at 10. Now I'll probably oversleep myself and miss out on doing some healthy stuff in the morning. So yeah, I should be taking my own advice here. :p

4. As said before, building muscle is the answer to your question.
And yes, cardio has little effect on your resting metabolism. The reason why people who run every day are so damn slim is because they run EVERY day. Soon as they stop running their bodies will stop burning calories as they did while running after after very, very short while (we're talking hours here). That doesn't mean you shouldn't do cardio at all, it just means you shouldn't rely completely on it. For example, I always begin a training session with 2 km. rowing and end it with another 5 km. of rowing. But in between that there's aprox. 45 minutes of weight lifting like there's no tomorrow.

Building muscles will take a little longer, but after that, they will only need little maintenance. It will however raise your metabolism alot which is what you want. Besides, you can burn off all the fat there is, if there are no muscles underneath, you will probably won't get the body you want to get.

Mind you though, building muscles doesn't in any way mean you should be looking like some bodybuilder in the end. If that's what you want that's fine. But otherwise, just use lower weights and do more reps.

5. Try being really strict with yourself monday-friday, and then treat yourself to all you've been craving for in the weekends (within reason!). This way you'll not only have something to look forward to, but will also help your metabolism. If you are on a diet 24/7, 4 weeks a month, 12 months a year, already after a few weeks your body will realise it has less food it needs to process, so your metabolism will drop. Eating all you want in the weekends will give it a kick up the ass. Just stay away from McDonalds and you should be fine.

6. Last but not least, make a plan and stick with it.

I'm 6'5 and i weight in at 190

I'm a vegetarian, (you don't have to be one, PM for more on that)

I only eat Organic

I work out twice a week

I only eat 3 solid meas a day (fuck snacking)

I eat at least one home made meal a day
