I am currently learning aiki jujutsu which is awesome when standing up or kneeling. I was thinking of taking brazilian jiu jitsu for ground work so if someone ever rugby tackled me I would be in a strong postion. Why is it so awesome? Because someone thinks they have the stronger position on top with you on your back, but this is where you are at your most dangerous. That concept is awesome. |

It's extremley addictive, I've been doing it for about 1 year and i now can hold my own against most everybody, i can submit and beat guys that are 50-70 pounds heavier than me, and it's like a gateway drug, because now im training in muay-thai and boxing, i work out more than ever (not right now, one of the risks is fing ringworm!!) but im in great shape, i care what i eat cause i compete, it boosts confidence (come on, taking a guy 70 pounds your senior and completley dismantling him has to say something haha) but i would seriously recommend it, but it is a bit time consuming, and can be a bit expensive. |

Brazilian Jui Jitsu has been proven to be the most effective style in combat, in Dever on November 13th 1993 there was a no hold bared-bare knuckle tournament to find out what style worked best and Brazilian Jui jitsu dominated winning the first two tournaments and then the 4th tourament but nowdays it has gotten common and almost all MMA fighters use brazilian jui jitsu. I would recomend this style i have trained in BJJ and it is very effective to know but i dont train much in it as i dont have the time to and i am a boxer and train for boxing competions not MMA or jui-jitsu competions. |

I do it twice a week. Its always intense. Although I don't think it would be good for a bar fight, since most of the moves are ground based. |

Ground is good, just googled it and it suggested 72-90% (depending on which sources you read) end up on the ground and my Karate Sensei always says how most fights end up on the ground or with just a drunken dude trying to smack you up a lot........the response block punch, punch or guess what?........A throw! Spark. |

I'm boxing now and will start thai boxing next week and I want to get in BJJ to boost my ground skills. The problem is.. Nowhere around here there is a BJJ club.. However if I must say, I believe those things boost your confidence in a fight but they are not the winning concepts for a drunk brawl or for example when someone would point a knife at you on the streets. What will you do with your BJJ when someone holds a knife? I've heard about Krav Maga ( Israelian soldier fighting training ) and I think it'd be great to learn also. Anybody has experience with Krav Maga? To conclude, I don't think BJJ or muay thai aren't good. They are V |

im really considering bjj! i would also very highly recommend capoeira. ive been doing it for a good while now... its great for fitness, balance, etc. girls love it, and although it isnt the most practical martial art, it teaches you a lot about self-defense and even incorporates bjj and take-downs. i cant tell you how many times ive been at a park practicing with my buddies and girls just sit and watch us. easiest way to get numbers. (in fact, girls approach me on the street when i wear my team's shirt!) Definitely check it out guys! |

If you dont have a BJJ club near you or its getting a bit pricey for you do Judo its always cheap sometimes they even have clubs for free. Its hard to compare the 2 and say which is better cause they both came form the same thing, someone told me once that BJJ focuses more on ground work where as Judo is about a 50/50 split between throwing and ground work. At least with Judo you if your competitive youll have more chances to compete cause its a world sport all clubs are affiliated with the Kodakan and the Olympics, where as BJJ clubs might be different brands and not compete together. I do Judo and im a beginner i can still barely hold my own at my club but i went to a BJJ club with my freind to try and get more training days in and they focused on slightly different things but when we were sparring i was dismantaling the BJJ guys left right and centre. |

I love BJJ. I am a traditional ju jitsu brown belt and also do Muay thai, love all Martial arts. Whilst on this topic - I do a lot of interclubs and have had three MMA bouts. I sometimes carry black eyes and have had my nose broken twice. Do injuries like these spell disaster to your outer game at all??? ie -girls thinking you are the violent type who loves to fight???? |
