Post subject:  Healthy Food Made Eeeeasy

Hey guys,

I myself am a student currently studying. What are good foods that are easy to prepare, can take to colleage etc. I know that a ideal lunch would be sweet pototo, chicken breast, salads etc however its not that easy to prepare and take to colleage.

Currently Im eating tuna and tomato rolled up in lebenese bread. Any other good foods that can be made easily, healthy and good for muscle build.

Thanks in advice for all help

I would be interested in this too, I am currently living off pizza and chips. The only meal that I make that is healthy is baked potatoes, they take ages but if you put one in the oven when you get back from lectures by the time you are hungry it is ready.

Also frozen veg is a lifesaver, you just put it in boiling water for a few minutes and it is good to go (I think it has less nutrients if it has been frozen or something but its better than a kfc).

Ah another thing I forgot to mention is that fruit is great to take anywhere and is very healthy. However Im looking more for muscle building foods.

Lean meats like Turkey and chicken are great with a good bit of protein. Maybe peanut butter or dry cereal if you're on the go all the time. But if that's the case, snack bars are the way to go. Nature's Valley bars are great as are nutigrain. Even protein or fitness bars are good too. But sad to say is that you may just have to suck it up and wait till you get home. Or if your college cafeteria is good, just pick things out there. If all else fails, cockroaches are a better source of protein than almost any meat.

Avocados, walnuts, sliced turkey (or any white meat bird, but turkey is best), don't eat too much tuna (no more than one can/week) because of it's high mercury levels, and slip in a little salmon (can be canned as well) or mackerel, bananas, Whole-grain breads (NOT white bread), Tofu, edamame, granola, yogurt (not too much dairy though), Hummus, tabouli, bell peppers, SPAM, brown or wild rice (NOT instant rice or white rice), potato chips made with natural oils (you can't always eat vegetables!), tomatoes, basically any vegetable, fruit, nut or lean meat. try to stay away from processed food as much as possible.

Thanks everyoneone for the replies

Petetong, is all tuna high in mercury? Id be happy to pay more if theres less of it.

The foods you mentioned are great, however, most of them are hard to take out to eat. When you mentioned sliced turkey, is that the 'ham' style one. If so, whats a good sandwich for that. I love tuna and tomato wrapped in lebenese bread but Im getting sick of it like hell.

And waffle, lol! its funny because apparently its true

Something easy Can be just a chicken and pasta combination. The chicken can be cooked chicken breast the night before or Pre packed chicken Bits, just get some sort of sauce that you like with pasta, cook the pasta, mix it the sauce and the chicken in a plastic pot, eat it as a cold pasta salad later on.

Bagels are also great, and surprisingly healthy, then depending on your workout intentions adapt the filling. But generally Cheese, salad and meat or fish will sort you out.

Smoothies and shakes are another convenient option.

yeah, pretty much all tuna. i'm sure some is less than others (maybe farmed tuna is lower? i dunno you'd have to look it up) but in general, tuna absorb heavy metals into their bodies much easier than any other fish, and have the highest rates of mercury.

thanks guys for the help ful replies.

Im thinking sliced turkey is good, nice and easy to make in the morning. What goes well with turkey in a sandwich?

petetong, isnt there guidelines for the tuna companies to comply with in regards to the level of mercury in them? I know lots of people that eat tuna daily and they are some of the healthiest people I know.

The albacore has a lot more mercury that just the plain cheap tuna that looks like shit. I love tuna and eat a lot of it. If you live in a dorm it's hard to cook anything even if it is fast.

Personally, I use my George Foreman Grill a lot. Just buy some frozen beef patties and frozen chicken breasts. They cook up in about 10-15 minutes. Also hard boiled eggs are good. Just boil like a dozen eggs at a time and they will last you a couple days without having to do it again. You can also buy a tub of protein powder. It mixes well and you can drink it fast. Go with the Gold Standard Whey. Or if you're cheap you can get some lower quality Body Fortress Protein powder for like $12 a tub.

Thank you very much petetong, a very good read.

Joe19, I was thinking of doing that, buying the grill and buying steak from the supermarket. Is it easy to clean etc? Have you tried having raw eggs in a cup of milk? I used to do it until my parents found out which they werent happy with lol since apparently you can get a lot of different infections.

Well the old George Foreman is a pretty big pain to clean, but the new one is easier. I just wipe it down, and clean it like once a week. I dont mind cooking on it if it is dirty. Ya man I would never drink milk with a raw egg. That is a little messed up.
