I am hearing that working out can make you look older. Thats the last thing I want. I don't even look or act 31 and don't want muscle building to make me look that way. |

I can kind of see why some would say this. If you are overweight maybe losing some of the fat in your face could make you look a little older. But I think it's crap. I started crossfit about a month and a half ago and I feel amazing and I'm still overweight (working on changing that)...I feel younger, that's more important to me. I'm 29 btw |

Really, how so and where did you get this information? You are getting older by the day whether you like it or not, that's nature. But you can slow it down by taosist methods. The western scientific explanation is that of brain and body chemistry and a builtin self destruct mechanism. It also has alot to do with your mental attitude which affects your body/brain chemistry and the diet you are eating. If you are negative and pessimistic in your thinking it produces chemicals which are toxic and detrimental to your health so it becomes a viscious cycle couple with zero physical exercise and sun exposure.Excercise releases feel good hormones which lifts your mood and promote healthy body chemistry. As the wise saying goes, " Your thoughts create your reality".What are you creating every day? The choice is yours.Do you want to see yourself old or young is a matter of attitude which ultimately shows from within to the outside world, something like body language.Ponder about this. |

Actually, scientists did an experiment with monkeys where one had a severe calorie-restricted diet and the other had all the carbs it wanted. A well-publicized picture of the two shows the difference. I imagine you could google something like "two monkeys diet picture" and find it pretty easily. If you want to do an extreme diet long term, or specifically, if you think you can do an extreme diet every day for the rest of your life in today's age go right ahead. If looking younger is that important to you and you have the discipline to pull it off, then great. I'd say looking fit is better, and overall fitness generally includes exercise and carbohydrates to feed the muscles, it's just that the carbs come from sensible eating and not a soft drink with every meal. Besides, age is not that important with most women, and the ones who screen exclusively for age are going to be too shallow to be with anyway. |

When you have wasted your 20s like me due to mental health and family irritation, You just can't accept being older. Also, I still want peers and aquaintances. This is the problem for me. |

Live life without regrets, it's the journey/experience that counts. This age thing isjust your perception.Aging is a fact of life, no one is immune to it, however you can slow it down and make the best of it. Check out taoist methods. We all need some form of socialisation but it seems you live for the approval of others when you should be your own self that matters. Friends may be with you for the good times but how many stay by your side when you have problems like mental illness and other issues? Ponder on this. |

no it wont make you look older. As said smoking cigs makes you age faster, as does spending too much time in the sun and tanning, it breaks down the collagen in your skin |

I've worked out off and on my whole life and most people think I'm quite a bit younger than my actual age. I'm 38 and someone thought I was around 27 recently. If anything working out will keep you younger looking. To remain younger looking take high quality multivitamins, drink a LOT of water everyday (7 or 8 8 ounce cups) and use a moisturizer with sunblock in it on a regular basis on your face and neck. Edit: A healthy diet with no fried foods/no processed sugars and lots of vegetables will help too. |
