Hey Guys This site and books has given me a push to do some crazy things, Stop wanking..Peacocking..learn how to play the guitar..spanish..martial arts..lots of interesting stuff and i somehow managed to sign up for the perth marathon on sunday. Not sure how to take it, as i have done 1x7mile run on sunday, and thats all. I have no knowledge about dieting or anything.. But i have been eating protein + carbs like no tommorow. No Training + No diet + Marathon (42km) = Stupid as fuck + cocky - Sore knees - Sore groin + Sympathy Massage + Sympathy cuddles = Beer + Dinner + Sex |

No Training + No diet + Marathon (42km) = Stupid as fuck + cocky - Sore knees - Sore groin + Sympathy Massage + Sympathy cuddles = Beer + Dinner + Sex Yes ,this forum has lots of information for men who want to learn and grow as human beings.I'm a lifetime distance runner and was a gym rat for over 20 years. From what you wrote, almost zero mileage in terms of training, you are not likely to finish half a marathon. But because you are young who knows you may have enough willpower to run ,walk, run, walk to the finish line in about over 5 hours..).It takes about 6 months of training averaging 60 miles a week to complete a marathon comfortably.I personally participated in 3 marathons and completed 2 in not so good times. The unsuccessful one was at over 3/4 mark where it was near my home which I simply walked home. I have to warn you that recently in my country during a marathon,a young man ran for the first time in his life ( a challenge he set for himself) and with more training than you collapsed and died.My advice is attempt the marathon if you want, feel the excitment but don't push yourself and stop when your body tells it has enough. You'll live to run another marathon if you train hard enough.Impulsiveness has it's pros and cons.Enjoy your life. |

My first post and respect to all those with the 'Game'. I ran 2 full marathons last year in hot and humid conditions. They both hurt! My advice based on what you have posted is this: Start very very slowly, and do not be tempted to follow the pack when the gun goes. Enjoy the experience, do not expect a 'time' but just to finish will be enough and the benchmark for next time. Stop at every water station and take in as much as you can. There is no disgrace in walking every mile for one that you run. Be careful and best of luck. |

Fun fact Roman soldiers had to march at an ordinary pace of 20 Roman miles in 5 summer hours and at a fast military pace of 24 Roman miles in 5 summer hours carrying a 70 pound backpack. A roman mile is 9/10s of a Modern Mile, but just imagine doing a marathon 70lb backpack (I don't know if that counted armor and weapon). I also heard somewhere that Roman soliders marched 2 marathons a DAY. Which would be 52 miles. |

Well done. now you have a time to beat the next one you run. I had one coming up on the 16th of this month but I have not trained properly so I withdrew. You are now an official member of the 'Full' club. |

Aye, i wouldnt reccomend any to run a marathon with no training. i learnt the hard way. I Do believe that you would be okay with maybe a month / 6 weeks training though. The full Club, added towards my other cool club - the mile high club |

I would not attempt a full without a proper 16-18 weeks program. A Higdon or Pfitz program are considered reputable and there are several depending on levels of ability and experience. I may do one in February if all goes well. |
