I'm sure washing your face with chlorinated water doesn't help anything and probably destroys the fine balance of stuff your glands excrete. But acne are generally a consequence of a bad diet. |

First of I have some acne and I don't know about you but during the summer when I go to the pool a lot, my acne goes completely away probably from a mixture of the sun and chlorine. Anyway my dermatologist said that having a bad diet is a common myth about the cause of acne, granted it doesn't help, but it doesn't really cause it. The real cause is actually a hormonal imbalance, hence why people usually get it around puberty. That also explains why some people have greasy skin and don't have it and others have nice dry skin and still have it. It's all hormones. |

it's the sun that's good for your skin. forget all the nonsense about sun and skin cancer most of it is not true. use the healing powers of the sun as much as you can. combined with light physical outdoor exercises you'll get even better results. you still may want to see if there's any kind of food that increases acne. stop eating fried foods as well as potato chips and the sorts for a while. be aware that certain foods can heat up your blood and cause acne that way. these are:tangerines, peanuts, cheese,etc.... check the internet about the yin and yang (heating & cooling) qualities of foods; chinese medicine sites will do.. don't follow the classical food-pyramid advices..it's nonsense..and do not trust a doctor who has a poster of that damn food pyramid in his office. don't use certain concentrated vitamin A capsules produced by the pharmaceutical industry, which your doctor may want to give you against the acne. they are dangerous. ps: dental infections, can trigger acne. a root canal SPAM which may look like a clinical masterpiece from the outside could remain a ailment triggering mess deep inside, this can lead to acne, symptoms of arthritis and other health troubles.... also: check for parasites and flukes. next thing to do is check wether allergy or a MSG intolerance exists. |

Scrubbing your face and touching it with dirty hands throughout the day can cause and worsen acne, especially if you have oily skin. I have been struggling with mild acne in the temples and can't seem to get rid of it, but with all the resources I read most agree that scrubbing is bad for acne. Washing your face is good as long as you don't scrub as you get rid of dirt and pollution that may be on there that could clog the pores, but be gentle with the skin and avoid common soap on your face since it seems to make skin age faster or something like that, use a cleanser instead. |

I think diet will only cause the odd spot. If you're the sort of person who normally has good skin but gets the odd one here and there, it is probably an "external" influence that has caused it, in my opinion. So either food, touching your face with greasy fingers, something like that. If you have slightly (or a lot) worse acne, then it's probably hormonal and it's harder to control them. Some people can eat superbly, get on all sorts of stuff from the doctors, but they just have to ride it out until the hormones calm down. |

My dermatologist always said that the connection between acne and diet was a myth. Ask your doctor about accutane. It has some potentially really bad side effects, but it cured me with only mild, temporary side effects. I regret nothing. |

I don't want to get all quacky, but a lot of doctors deny the connection of diet with a series of conditions. Don't dismiss the possibility before you've tried it based on one person's opinion |

nah man stick to washing your face twice a day wash for about 2 minutes and you should be fine. and dont follow the advice off people on the forums (ironyyyy) it will be too mixed stick to what your derm tells you, if he gives you accutane take it but if its mild acne antibiotics + benzoyl peroxide should work for a few months. |

Yeah. Sleeping on your stomach, face on the pillow (its dirty/greesy), and well, you probably need a routine. If you have cystic acne, checkout acne.org. See which foods trigger it. Also, get on accutane if you are notcing your skin is getting scars or permanently damaged. If you are self conscious, now is the time to change it man. Acne sucks but, scars is much worse. If you have ever been on acne.org or seen some photos of scars, its terrible, and very sad. Somewhere i have read that excess of washing face can cause acne problem...is it true...?? share your opinion with me... I did not know any puas had this condition but, I did the flawless natural dvd and I noticed Tim has battled acne and scars. I am amazed at his confidence and what he can do despite it. |

i have to say, i'd tried everything from proactiv to aloe to prescription meds. the fact is, i feel like no one gives the full story. if you read the proactiv packets, it explicitly says that diet can't cause acne. my dermatologist told me the same. but after 3 or 4 years of struggling with some moderately severe stuff, i managed to get it under control. it's all in the lifestyle. eat right (steer clear of processed foods, milk, and fats; this was particularly hard cause im a vegetarian), get plenty of sleep (always used to fuck me over when i was in grade school), get some sun and wash your face a couple times a day. problem is, doctors and acne SPAM companies are just out to sell their product. so yeah, by all means give them a shot, the prescriptions will definitely help; but change your lifestyle. |

The only reason why this would cause even more acne problems is if your skin is getting dry and irritated due to this.
