Post subject:  Avoiding calorie counting.

This has been working for me, I think it'll help others.
First off, I think the reason most of you have clicked this is because you're on the same page as me. Counting calories is lame, inconvenient, and not so great for long term. You at least agree with one of those things I just said or you probably wouldn't have clicked this.

So how do we avoid it?

Plan your meals following these rules.

1. Protein at every meal. As much as you like.
2. Whole grains and vegetables at three of your meals. Before lunch, you can replace the vegetables and grains with fruit. (I think it's better to use more protein than carbs, so I tend to do about half as many carbs as protein, but I'm not a dietician or a doctor, so I encourage you to experiment.)
3. Healthy fats at three of your meals. (Nuts, salmon, any source of omega 3's, etc.)
4. Drink citrus juice once a day, without sugar. (No orange juice.) Or any other anti-oxidant. (If you google "Antioxidants," I'm sure you'll find a hell of a lot of good information on this.)
5. If it's processed, don't let it go down your throat. You can taste it, but spit it out.
6. Eat at least 5 times a day.

Of course, if you eat too much of this stuff, you'll still gain weight. But that's a good reason for the eating 5 times a day. Say you eat a huge breakfast of eggs, whole grain toast with peanut butter, bananas, and a big glass of grapefruit juice. Do you think you'll eat nearly as much at your second meal? What about your third? It's actually a bit better to eat a huge breakfast because then you're less hungry throughout the day. If you would eat as much as that at all five of your meals, I'd see a doctor or take an appetite suppressant or something, but for me, and for a lot of other people I think, if you do this you shouldn't have to count calories again. The five meals a day also keeps your body far, far away from starvation mode, which will cause you to gain more weight.

If you have any disagreements, let me know. I'm always wanting to learn more and I'm just as fallible as the next guy.

Won't those fasting diets cause you to lose muscle mass, though?

lol the whole you'll lose muscle mass if you fast idea is a product of commercialization, if you don't eat for weeks to months straight then you might hit true starvation mode and see the negatives but in all honesty the biggest threat to muscle mass is being stagnant. So if you don't lift heavy things and cut a ton of calories you will lose muscle. Other than that yo'll be fine

Alright, cool. I'm a bit skeptical, but maybe when money's a bit tighter for me I'll try it out.

Counting Calories with healthy food will help you start to recognize portions and then you will get used to it and not need to count calories. For instance I know what a portion of 3 oz chicken looks like and I know its 110 calories, and so I know that I can eat that with some low GI fruit, broccoli or green leafy veggies and be good. Typically if you eat lean and work out you will lose BF, but too much of a good true is true... for example, an apple is 7- 130 calories, so if you eat 15 of the 130 apples that's almost 2000 calories and if you eat more calories than you use you wont lose bf... not too mention if you just eat apples you will have a deficiency of alot of nutrients which can also lead to not losing fat... just eat lean, healthy and in portions and work out and you should lose it.
