Helo guys, I am studying pua arts (to some extent) for a six months already. By "studying" I mean reading literature, pondering on some problems and implementing or trying to implement it in my LTR In short my question is - what techniques are good against your direct boss who is *rude* and *rigid thinking* guy I`ve read about Amog destroyer however I don`t see any technique that will feet in my situation. My goal is to ward him off. I don`t plan to assume his position or something like that. Only fending him off. ______________________________________________________________________________________ The situation is described as follows 1. He is not in the power position to fire me directly 2. I am *willing* to risk the outcome when he becomes pissed of and starts subtly working against me. He already does I believe lol 3. We are of the same age and work in a small group of 5-7 people of mixed gender. 4. Our job is providing business news 5. He is generally described as a rude and rigid thinking guy who really enjoys reminding everybody that he is in a power position. 6. I can`t stand several aspects of his behavior. I will describe our conflict: 6.1. I`ve graduated from one of the most prestigious universities in Eastern Europe and I`ve earned a PhD Degree there. I am generally considered by everyone as a guy who knows losts of stuff about business and politics and can up with bright and interesting ideas 6.2. His education is rather tacky. I get it, education generally does not equal your intelligence and knowledge but in his case it does. He is agressive to everything new and our conversation usually goes like that I: Look, probably whe should say it that way so that.... He: Do as I say 6.3. His manner is what pisses me off. I used to have different bosses but they all always welcomed my ideas and suggestions. They could refuse/correct/improve them but there was always room for debate. In the end of the day, we are providing business news - we should always discuss whether our content is interesting/enlightening for the audience. 6.4. I am not accustomed to such attitude. I am taught to be open-minded and analyze every opinion and I can`t tolerate situations where my point of view is ignored. Of course I mean knowledge-grounded point of view. He may ignore my opinion on lots of things (like for instance whethear or best way of treating some ilness) and I will be cool with that. 6.5 I feel that he dislikes me. He is constantly seeking flaws in my work. Nobody is perfect but every other boss before him generally were glad with what I am doing. And I actually always used to ask for feedback and generally it was favorable. His attitude is different - "No, you are doing it wrong, please re-write your text" 7. I can be biased to a certain extent of course (like all of us). Or probably you may think that I am arrogant douchebag whose behaves himself in a manner that escalates conflict. Probably I am however I try to be nice to everyone including him and hide my thoughts. 8. It is well-known that he makes factual mistakes and it is known that he is under-educated 9. You may ask how it came that the guy I describe assumed managerial position. First of all, he started working while studying. Secondly, our company is rather nepotistic and he boasts to have some bloodline connections to our executives 10. And yes I realize that this affair may end up with company firing me. I am willing to risk that So I am waiting your advice on destroying (only psychologically) this AMOG-Guy. |

You go up to his office. This is what you will say. "Do you have the good of this company at heart?" "Say what, kid?" "I am highly educated, have a Ph.D degree, and am highly in tune with what today's generation demands from news and media. Therefore, my input can benefit this company. If you are not open to that, then I cannot use my knowledge to its full potential here. I could not be bothered to go into passive aggressive power plays. So here it is, stop trying to hold me back, and this company will prosper." You can always start making contacts with the competition. If you haven't done this already. Why devote your time and energy to a sinking ship if you might as well sell your knowledge to the competition? |

Why devote your time and energy to a sinking ship if you might as well sell your knowledge to the competition? However it won`t work in Eastern Europe state-run state-funded media company. They won`t understand such rhetorics. The "ship" is not sinking (as I said it is state-run) at all, however I consider different exit options already. I plan to move on in 3-6 months However my daily working hours are becoming hellish because of him and I need tools to parry his passive agression I`ve read about Mystery techniques and wondered whether I could say something to him like - "Hey, I like your style and I probably could even recruit you for my several side-way projects". However I don`t see it working after several months of sitting in one room together. I should have said something like that when he arrived 2-3 months ago. thank you for your attention! |

What you will be saying, if you follow my advice, is not rhetorics. You have a talent. The company benefits from this talent. If your boss stops you from using this talent, neither you nor the company benefits. This is basic economics, not rhetorics. But surely you understand that as you have a Ph.D. |
