| Post subject: | Approach Anxiety? 3 second rule? |
I have heard it said that "even the best PUAs get approach anxiety." Specifically from Mystery, I think. I'm sure others have repeated it. I don't consider myself any kind of master, however I would like to inform, maybe even just brag, that I don't get approach anxiety anymore. I remember a few years ago that any thought of approaching an attractive girl would give me butterflies so intense that it was unbearable. But now, no matter who it is or where I'm at, the anxiety does not exist, even in the least. Has anyone else found this to be true, that the anxiety can be overcome completely, or am I truly special? I have also found that the "3 second rule" has absolutely no basis in reality. I will stare at a girl for a half hour sometimes before I decide to approach, and it seems to make absolutely no difference. In fact, I prefer to wait, if the situation permits it, so that I can watch her nonverbals and/or dialogue and make sure she is the kind of girl I indeed might be interested in... Just thought I'd put this info out there. Opinions? |

Yeah I've watched a video where Mystery explained that he "fears the approach from time to time" because our hardwiring is designed that way to ensure our survival and replication - the 2 purposes in life. On the topic of the 3 second rule. Mystery created this rule so that we can approach with the same mindset as normal without our sympathetic and parasympathetic stress response kicking in before the approach. It also ensures that the HB does not discover us backing up the courage to approach. So in the end it's just a rule that ensures we have the highest S&R value before approaching a set. I personally was never too fond of this idea as I prefer AFCAdam's Metagame. Where backing up courage is not needed and instead we would game the whole room and through preselection the target will become curious and want to be introduced to us. Comparing the outcome of DHV from this method to the 3 second rule it's blatantly obvious which method is more beneficial to use. AFCCoffee |

The Three-Second Rule follows the philosophy of K.I.S.S. (Keep It Simple, Stupid). For us beginners who have confidence issues with approaching, it's great for forcing us newbies to walk up and say "Hi" to someone, before we have a chance to sabotage ourselves mentally and talk ourselves out of meeting someone really cool. This is in contrast to Metagame, which involves analysis of a group prior to initiating conversation. It's a much-more sophisticated technique, and I agree that it's superior since it rolls several PUA social concepts into one technique. The only real flaw is in the user: If the PUA-in-question has issues with over-analyzing a situation and has a tendency to "talk himself out of approaching", then he should put Metagame back on the shelf and continue to use The Three-Second Rule until his inner game is strong enough to analyze before approach. This isn't a question of which way is better, it's a matter of what is the best method for the PUA to use at their current level of training. |
