| Post subject: | Becoming the AMOG of the Team |
I play on a team at uni and although Im a captain, 6ft 4 and pretty big, and Im a generally very nice guy, dont bad mouth anyone or try to slag them off, I still dont get alot of respect, I dont know what it is exactly that I do, but I must somehow project that its ok to try and put me down, a few of the guys are just general dicks, but because they try to put me down, its like it sorter makes it ok for alot of other people to do it. Im pretty cocky I guess, and Im quite athletic, and am pretty good looking(not to sound like an arrogant cock) its just I do well with the females who hang around the team, and think that a few of the guys get jealous of me and that provokes some of the crap I get. But tbh, Im big enough to physically take any of these guys, but i just dont like getting into fights(I could get kicked from the team), just generally not aggressive. Plus alot of what they do is just childish and fucking stupid, alot of it happens before training were Im trying to get focused on practice and can't be arsed coming back to there shit. Any ideas where Im going wrong, what I could do to stop it? If theres any vital info Im missing just say and I'll put it up. Thanks. |

You can either ignore them, or try to outwit them with comeback. Not everyone can do the second one, especially (and I mean no offense) among sportsmen. I had a friend that was pretty good looking and did alright with women, and guys on the team made fun of him all the time. He ignored them because he had no wits. And in my experience thats pretty common. Some of those guys use physical violence to avoid that. And thats WRONG. Keep on being a nice guy, that is mature enough to react properly to challenges from his peers. Besides, you know its just jealousy. |

Im witty enough to come back to there crap when I can be bothered, but as I said its just childish, and alot of the time I cant just cant be bothered coming back sine its just 'to me' retard humor.Although, we go on joint socials alot with female teams, and 'cheerleaders' alot, and some of these guys like to think there ladies men, is there anyway to embarrass them infront of the women, maybe that will shut them up alittle? If I can appear dominate on the socials Im sure that'll spill over into practice and plus being relatively good at picking up girls, and being able to actually give some good advice, I should beable to appear AMOG with the rookies by helping them out in bars etc... |

i'm in the same situation i just ignore it and not really care like you said, the guys are just jealous just continue playing well and enjoying the game. when you play your best, the other guys can keep talking shit but they're the ones looking stupid and immature |

Although I can only speak from personal experience on the subject, I think you're missing the point here. Every close-knit group of guys I have ever had the pleasure to be a part of regularly mocks and teases each other on a daily basis. This is how most men communicate. As one of my very close friends says, "The amount I like you is proportional to how much shit I give you." Maybe you should try looking at this not as a challenge, but as good-natured fun between friends. In other words, quit taking everything so seriously and lighten up Your boy, 870 |

Or become a leader and make them look up to you. In private with each guy be a friend and talk to them outside of the sport. Talk about their interests, and kind of 'help them out' with stuff. When isolated they have to like you if your friendly towards them, it disarms them. |

This is the type of advice I was looking for, sounds good man, thanks.

On what 870 mentioned though. Is it not more friendly banter as opposed to actually being "dicks" ? |

Its more them being dicks on purpose, particulary the last captain, he was just a dick, and would try to slap me a couple times, then Im not an aggressive person, but I had to control myself not to destroy him. I can put up with the banter, Im not some loner person, probably one of the more confident on the team so I can join in and 'be one of the guys' just when the whole team is together I'd start getting shit from a group of them.
