Post subject:  serious matters

Suppose you only had one date with a girl and there is nothing serious between you two yet. When she tells you that one of her relatives had a serious accident and she is having a crazy time, how do you respond to that? Do you try to help her get over it with all your effort or do you just play it cool, let her know that you are there for her if she needs anything and you hope that the relative gets better soon.

I'm not an insensitive or uncaring person but I don't want to be the shoulder where she cries on this early like her best friend so I am searching for the best way to handle this.

Think of this from her point of view. If you just met a girl and god forbid someone close to you died. Would you get the kind of comfort and support you would get from your parents or someone else that's already close to you?

What I'm trying to say is that, you should let her know you're there for her, but don't assume she wants your shoulder exactly. So just do the best you can; after all, she is a human being that needs care just like you do.
