well it was a bit forward don't you think... I mean when you haven't talked to a girl at all she sees you the same way as you would see a very unnatractive girl, if a very unnatractive girl asked you on a date as soon as she met you, what would you say?
take it slower next time and try making yourself seem like the prize, (read david deangelo). like on the third message or so "well i'm free __ and __ this week so i suppose we could go get a coffee, but i'm not promising anything because you could turn out to be completely crazy" (say this after you know she has a sense of humour). so if you don't express too much interest early she won't be scared off.
