Post subject:  The Infamous "How are you" Question

Now! here's my problem, I'm having so much difficultly with the easiest question in the world, The "How are you"question.

Okay, so..i get asked this question at least 10 times a week, mostly at work, where i work with hired guns.

I've played around with this question and realized if you ask

"Hey, How's it going/How are you"

you well get..

"pretty good/great, how are you?" or rarely a blah blah blah, which is what i want.

and you'll say...

"good", which i completely avoid now, because that well be the end of the conversation.

Now a day, i rather lie my ass off with a "not so good, I'm sick" or "great, i won two thousand dollars" (which i did). But that's not my problem, because I usually never open with this.

My Problem is the vice-versa of this convo, when I get asked first I usually say "good" when I'm not expecting it. and when I do have something good going on, it's something not good enough for convo, like "I Just finished my exams" or I'm having the same 10 minute conversation with 30 different people.

so does anyone have any guidelines or even tricks around this question, It's not so much that this question is rocket science for me it's just annoying and repetitive, and I know thiers more too it, than just "good".

Hah its simple, just keep it common but ask a different form of question:

-Hey what are you up to today? (should get an open ended response to bridge off of)...and if not dig some up:

You: Whats going on for you today?
Them: Nothing much...(simple ended).
You: (walking away because they are boring..say) typical slacker...
*Should make them respond asap or know to answer you differently next time if they are in fact interested at all*

-Hey where are you coming from...this will work fine in school/college/work situations as well(coming from such and such class would be her response or heading to....)

Basically ask something that DEMANDS more than a few word response...

Remember simple question expects=simple response.

I used this one on a girl at work the other day.

Me: Hey hun. What you been up to lately?

Her: Nothing.

Me: Hmm, ok. But when people say "nothing" they either honestly have nothing on or are being modest. Are you boring or modest?

Her: Umm, boring I guess.

Me: Yeah, I thought so. (Turn to other HB in the room nearby.) Hi mate. How you been?

Did the job...:p
