Post subject:  How to *believably* transition into DHV story?

This is after an opinion opener and perhaps some conversation/fun and games/asking how they know each other. I've seen some posts like this one:

bit.ly/LYY3uu

which say that you should just say "Oh that reminds me...." and start your story.

Problem is, people just go (or act as though they're thinking): "Uh, why are you telling us this [story about your ex, whatever]?"

So how do you actually transition with a plausible reason?

Interesting. I've experienced this very rarely if at all. Maybe your voice tone and body language needs calibration, or the story itself is not interesting enough, I really don't know.

Yeah it sounds as if something non verbal is off. The false time constraint and false roll off is huge when it comes to my dhv stories . I have to know I have them slightly hooked first, I don't just throw my good stories at anyone ;) the main reason I think my stories are entertaining isn't because of what I'm taking about, but how I say them. Hand gestures, high energy, and overall reason for telling thee story is what gets women invested. Trust me I've told some stories that are really lame but I talked about them in a way that creates interest.

I advise you tell a story to 5 to 10 people this week about how you baked cookies with your grandma. Very lack luster story, but see if you can tell it in a way that people will see as interesting or be able to relate to. Remember, with women, its all about feelings and connections.

Hope that helps. Cheers

Oh yeah... Something just came up to me. Do you inculde enough emotions when you are telling those stories? I mean... really it's not the story itself that is important. Find a great story with which you have very good memories associated. And good feelings. And when you tell it, try reliving those emotions. It will be much more authentic and entertaining.

OK, so I'm still confused. How are you supposed to have them hooked when all you've done is delivered an opener (do you think blah blah blah), given your take, and you're just about to leave the set?

I mean, sure, if they were hooked then I can imagine the DHV story being delivered naturally.

Maybe it's also my DHV story?

To illustrate a full interaction:

Me: Hey guys, do you think kissing is cheating?
Them: [blah]
Me: So my friend over there [blah]
Them: [blah...back and forth a bit more on this topic, maybe interleaving with story about fight outside earlier]
Me: [rocking away] Hey how do you all know each other?
Them: We're friends [maybe some more elaboration...my understanding is that we generally want to avoid following up with too many interview questions]
Me: Oh that reminds me, this was when I was living in Boston and [story about some ex or about dancing on stage with some hip hop artist or blah]

It's just so...unnatural. I'm fairly confident it's not in my delivery - I'm actually comfortable & have good energy delivering everything (oddly enough).

Oh, now I see the problem. You're 100% scripted man. Don't expect anything good from that. Why don't you come up with your own openers and tell your own DHV stories instead of the ones in the book? I usually do this:

Most of the time there's a bigger guy in the set who I engage:

-Hey man, you've got some muscles. Where do you work out?

-At XXX Gym.

-No way! Once we were there with some friends and the craziest shit ever happened...

good point. 100% scripted can't possibly work.
