I've been talking to this girl for a little over a month now. She broke up with her b/f of about 16 months in early May. (He happens to be a mutual friend of ours, but I'm not GREAT friends with him)

Anyway, we kind of talked about things and got on the same page - we both like eachother. I asked her if she prefers being single since it's been awhile since she's been single. She replied by saying she definitely enjoys being single and it took her awhile, but she is happy with herself and comfortable not being in a relationship. She'll see when things happen if she's ready to be serious.

I don't want to be in a serious relationship...I just wanna be able to call her my girlfriend. I guess it's just a label. It kind of bothers me to know she may be dating other guys - and I am far from protective, so don't get the wrong idea. What can I say to her, so she understands what I want?

I am a girl and I will tell you, I don't understand what you are saying. Are you younger (like high school age)? Because after high school calling a girl your "girlfriend" implies a lot more seriousness. Do you want to date other girls too? You say you don't want something serious with her, but if you are going to be exclusive, that sounds pretty serious! If you are going to see other girls, then you have to be okay with letting her see other guys. You can't have a double standard there; that will cause problems.

Many people get caught up in titles. They like the idea of the titles more than the actual relationship itself. I can tell you right now that no matter if she wants to be serious or not, a serious, but not so serious relationship like this will end quickly. It will end either because one of you will decide that you want more (prob her) but the other won't want to commit.....or, she will date other guys and find one that does want something serious with her and she will leave you.

Sounds horrible but its the truth...other wise she would prob love to be your gf.
