Post subject:  Same old situation

It was a roller coaster ride of a relationship the whole time. I think we confused the drama for love and passion. Things finally ended a couple months ago.

Anyways, since we broke up I have been with so many girls I cant even count them all. I even went so far as to date a couple at once. Recently I broke it off with all but one of them. She is a cool sweetheart of a chick.

So now, out of nowhere my ex wants to get together and make amends. Then she lays it on me that she wants me back and says how much she has changed. The same old story blah blah blah.

I cant help but want her back a little but I know that its a classic case of 'want what you cant have,' and that it will be the same mess of a relationship all over again. I would like to just be friends with the ex but that takes time.

I guess Im not really asking for any specific advice because this situation is all too common...just your take on the situation I guess.

Did you two have a closure talk? If not, go talk to her. And remember, talk does not involve your penis! If you did, tell her your happy with the girl you have and give her time to move on. Remember, the test of a relationship is how both respond to temptations. This situation will show you if your relationship is a good one or not.
Thanks for the response. To answer your question, we did have a closure talk although it was a bit delayed. When we first split up, we continued to talk and occasionally fool around. I told her that I wasnt waiting for her to get her head together and be 'ready' for the relationship. I guess that didnt really sink in for her until she saw me with another girl.

Anyways, that was several months ago and just recently when she got back in contact and she told me she wanted me back is when I told her that I didnt think I could do it again. I told her I wanted to be friends and she seemed to accept that. But then she contacted me again and saying the same thing again.

I think you are right that I need to give her the chance to move on. I didnt give her specifics about other girls b/c I dont think she wants to know specifics. I just told her that all I could offer was a friendship right now and I hoped we could do that.
