It was a factor of both, she was not attracted/interested in you, hence you catching the IODS. Also stop the needy behaviour, even if you don't care, just don't do it. She hadn't spoken to you in a long time, then saw those flirty messages, she started wondering and tried to hook you in, and it worked easily for her, because you're so desperate for her.
