Hey everyone, So Im in my final year of A-Level in England before I go off onto other adventures. The plan was to have a year out before going to university to study Psychology until doctorate level, but recently I've been wondering if the world of research and academia is really for me. My father is a professor at an established university and I see how much he works every day on research and papers and honestly I just couldn't do that. I have been looking at the College of Cognitive Behavioural Hypnotherapy (www.ccbh.org.uk) in London. It essentially offers a 3 year part time course in Hypnotherapy, with a foundation course, then a diploma, then an advanced course. It is not just a normal take on Hypnotherapy but it infuses it with both the Cognitive and Behaviourist models of Psychology, similar to CBT (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy). This course also allows you to progress to do a Masters Degree (MSc) at Goldsmith's College in RECBT (Rational-Emotive Cognitive Behavioural Therapy). Obviously the direct route out of this study would to open up a small clinic/business, but I was also considering other markets which could be touched on (sports teams, marketing, etc). The disadvantage of not getting a PhD in Clinical Psychology at a University is that I wouldn't be able to advertise other forms of therapy nor would I be listed on major mental health registers. I want to know if there is a large opportunity for profit in the Hypnotherapy business whether you have researched it yourself or if you are a Hypnotherapist or know of one. I would really like to see if I could take this as a genuine career and make a good living. It has helped my life with pickup, I'd love to see what else it can do. Also, workshops anyone? Cheers, -Memento |

I suggest you go to the University, and get your PHD. The higher education would be invaluable to you. Then once you have this degree, a hypnotherapy certification would just be a hop skip and a jump. Then you would have both. You only ever have to work as hard as you want, and for as much success as you desire. One thing is certain, and that is there is no such thing as too much education, qualification, or knowledge. |
