Post subject:  new to nlp. Few questions.

I am reading an introductory book on nlp. I was reading an online book which Introduced me to the idea of patterns. It was very interesting and promising. The book on nlp I'm reading presented the Idea of nlp to overcome phobias and change bad habbits. I have a very bad case of approach anxiety. When I went to bars I could only approach to women when drunk. I managed to improve very little but the anxiety is still there. No mention that daygame It's impossible to me at this moment since I feel approach in daytime is awkward. So my questions are:

Can NLP help with approach anxiety?
Can I run a pattern to myself?
anybody tryed it?

The book is very interesting. But some ideas still sound like magic to me.

1. Yes it can help approach anxiety, but my advice to you is just to go out and strike up conversations with everyone. Guys, girls, old people, everyone. You will soon find that most people are more than OK with being opened. Just keep it light and don't get to being creepy.

example: I have totally struck up a conversation with married guys at concerts and ended up talking to the wife's hot single friends. At times almost spoon fed to them with a great introduction from someone they already know and trust.

2. I wouldn't quite call them patterns, but there are techniques that are more like self hypnotism that can help you get over things that are holding you back. NLP is a very all encompassing view of all communication both outward and inward as well as everything in between. You have just begun to scratch the surface.

3. Yes. It works if you put in the time and effort to study it.

1) Yes, but imo you have to reframe your approach anxiety first. Labeling yourself as "having approach anxiety" is a very limiting view, when I really started to overcome AA was when I started viewing it as a signal that my body wants me to act. The latter is as equally true but more flexible belief.

2) Yeah you can, although it makes it easier if you induce yourself into a hypnotic trance, either by intentionally focusing externally or internally for a period of time, or just waiting until you're about to fall to sleep and your mind is open to visualization and new ideas.

3) Yeah, I've had success on all counts.
