Post subject:  Twenty years before 60's Anti-Manifesto

I just came across a video (originally made in 1987 for the BBC) of Michael Caine talking about acting in film. And it's amazing how many of the elements are similar to what 60 Years of Challenge discussed recently in his Anti-Manifesto:

-don't blink
-listen
-when you do speak, speak slowly and clearly
-less is more

I would recommend cuing the video to the 4:28 mark and watching from there:

Oh, and if you haven't yet read 60's Anti-Manifesto, you really should; it's excellent. Here's a link to where Chief posted it:

Hope you find this helpful.

Yeah. This was a very cool share. Lots of similaries between this and 60.

Do I have to act like Im in a starring role in an ABC drama to pick up women?
No. You simply need to be calm and collected. Know what you want, and through eye contact, show her what you're after... her.

This video has lead me to a thought:

Isn't everyone 'acting'?

Acting as if a big camera is pointed at them? So they try and try.

But what michael caine is saying. ACT AS IF THERE'S NO CAMERA.

The cameras we face might be different, usually it is: FEAR.

Watch it again with that in mind, it's mind blowing.

So a camera to you... is a mask that we wear in certain scenarios... to be someone else, if only for a moment.
We are all ACTING as best we can to be confident and GENUINE... right?
Fake it til you make it.

That's a good point, Vaj. Everyone is acting. And I agree that the camera is analogous to fear. Another way to think of it is as self-consciousness. Our goal should be to act as unselfconsciously as possible. For one thing, we're much more present in the moment when we're not self-conscious. And we're much more creative. Scientists have been doing studies lately -- on jazz musicians in the act of improvising songs http://www.ted.com/talks/charles_limb_y ... mprov.html -- that show how the creative centers of our brain's frontal lobe are activated when we are able to turn off our internal editor.
